Why is this so expensive even though being ABS? Could someone make me more aware?

steuerYour question implies an assumption that is not true: ABS is an under average material for key caps compared with PBT. Starting from it, your thinking is basically biased. As others have said, this has been discussed extensively; but, if you do not like ABS, there is no explanation that may help you. For some of us, there is no better set of key caps than these thick ABS double-shots. But again, don't mind trying to understand us, unless you are willing to invest some money and time in your own benefit giving a set like this a try; of course, as any other premium item, it is not for everyone.

steuerAs has been mentioned many times in the discussion thus far, PBT can't really be double shot since the plastic shrinks a lot. Normally you would use a dye-sublimation process with PBT, but you can't do light legends on dark backgrounds with dye-sub and dye-sub legends are a little less crisp. Another alternative is double-shot with PBT and a material like POM for the legends; this configuration often suffers from legends having a slight lip and some other imperfections due to the different plastics and shrink ratios and whatever.
At any rate. Material choice is just one aspect of the quality of keycaps, and in my opinion a pretty low ranking one all things considered. I'm looking at keycap profiles, thickness, texture, imperfections, clarity of legends, contrast, consistency of colour, etc. Despite not using a slightly more resistant material like PBT, GMK keycaps are some of if not the best keycaps that you can buy (though obviously profile is a personal preference).
