Not sure if this is an isolated issue or not but the size recommendation provided by the manufacturer was quite inaccurate. It is stated that you should order a belt that is 2 sizes greater than your waist size. As a consumer whose pants that are all 30 by 30, I ordered a size 32 belt. When I tried it on the tip of the belt could barely touch the buckle (I'm 5'11" and roughly 160 lbs so I don't believe my belly fat is the culprit here). I've contacted Massdrop support a few days ago but haven't heard back from them. As someone who's fairly new to group buys I'm not sure how to go about exchanges or refunds but I hope I'm not stuck with this belt especially because I followed the manufacturer's sizing guide. On a brighter note, the belt is of fantastic quality and style and I would definitely recommend this belt to all - though I would suggest you increase your waist size by 4 rather than the recommended 2.
Eazy_GI followed the “go up by 4” advice and ended up with a belt two sizes too large.
I would say the only safe way to size right is to ignore pants sizes entirely. Measure an actual belt that fits you. Had I done that, I’d have got the right size.
Eazy_GDid you ever get a reply from massdrop? The same thing just happened to me. I ordered a 34, expecting the buckle end to the middle hole to be about 34 inches, but it is actually closer to the outer most hole. The belt is about an inch and a half too short for me. I also contacted customer service since it did not arrive as expected.
promanoskiI don't know if the picture was different when you ordered, but it shows the measurement should be from leather end, not the buckle end, to middle hole. That's what it shows at the time of my post.
tegeus-CromisIt would actually be shorter like he is experiencing. He is including the buckle that the 34" should not include according to the diagram. I agree with you that their advice should be ignored and one should measure an existing belt they have and measure it the same way they do to get the correct size.
ChurchillWI assumed he meant that he expected a belt that was 34” from buckle to middle hole rather than 34” from leather to middle hole. If that was the case, the belt would be longer than he’d expected.
promanoskiWhat is the actual length from the start of the leather (not including buckle) to the middle hole? Would be great if you could measure your belt and see.
tegeus-CromisRight and therein lies the problem. He assumed the 34" to start at the buckle, but based on the diagrams it should measured from the leather end and he would lose the length of the buckle.
ChurchillWI feel foolish pursuing this, but: Let’s say you measure a BBC belt marked as 36”, but you mistakenly measure the buckle as well. That would get you a measurement of, let’s say, 37.5”. So you round up and order a 38” belt, and end up with a belt that’s too long. That’s the error that should occur if the guy measured an existing belt with buckle included. So I don’t quite understand how t happened, and would be interested to know the actual measurement of the belt he got. I strongly suspect he didn’t measure at all and just added 2” to a vanity size, or maybe didn’t add.
tegeus-CromisAgree, don't think they measured or did it incorrectly.
I just measured my 30" BBC Saffiano belt and measurement from buckle end to middle hole is 31.5", so about a 1.5" difference between buckle and leather end.
