Could this be used with my PC for a pair of jbl bookshelf speakers for balanced output? Would it help the nasty noise I hear from the dirty signal, I get a hum/static noise when gaming?

Interstellar13It’s an amp without pre outs. If your pc has terrible sound it’ll just be amplified. You need a DAC to get clean sound.

Interstellar13Are your JBL bookshelf speakers active? Meaning that they have an amplifier built in and you just send a line level audio signal to the speakers?
Or are your speakers passive, where you connect speaker wire to them from an actual amplifier?
And you would want to find out what sensitivity rating your speakers have, so you can do the math and know how much power they will pull at 100 decibels. Thats usually a number I use for calculating things because it is plenty loud enough, and you shouldnt go much higher cause you risk hearing damage.
If they are passive and you send speaker wire to them from an amp, then what impedance rating are the bookshelf speakers? Usually speakers are 4-16 ohm. Headphones are usually 16-600ohm. Headphone amps are not designed to power speakers because they usually lack the current capability to really power to the speaker. However if your bookshelf speakers are 16-32ohm, and they are passive design, then it is possible this headphone amp *could* power them. Andrew said that the amp has a limitter at 0.9 amps of current

Interstellar13So no then, this amp is not what you are looking for. To get a balanced signal into those speakers you would want a balanced DAC, which tend to be expensive.
If you have a hum issue, it is more likely from a grounding problem where you have the speaker power plugged in to rather than interference in the RCA input line.

Interstellar13Try reducing the gain in the speakers and increase it in the computer. I’ve not seen any balanced DACs with pre outs in this price range.

Interstellar13Intersteller13 take a look at the schiit modi 2 uber and magni 2 uber. This will do what you want. It's about 300 bucks bucks. It's a DAC and an amp and will clean up your JBLs. I personally use it and it works great.

Interstellar13You're welcome. Just get some shielded cables for 10 bucks and that dac and amp combo and bam - that shitty buzzing is gone. Took me forever troubleshooting the amount of buzz and then I got that combo and then it was gone.

Interstellar13Yea get an exturnal DAC first as the noise your getting is likely just electronic interference from the compute.
