My Tokyo60 arrived and I assembled it today. Unfortunately, I am not very favorably impressed**, although some of the negatives are likely due to my own clumsiness at installing the switches. Here are my pros and cons:
PRO: + The overall aesthetics are good. + The aluminum case is attractive and functional. + The PBT keycaps are fairly attractive and have a good feel. + The default HHKB layout is my favorite, so I will not even need to take advantage of the full programmability.
CON: - I had to replace 13 of the purple Zealio switches with some Cherry clears that I had on hand. This was probably my own fault, as the switch legs got bent during assembly. Although "hot swap" switches are a nice idea, now that I have the board more or less working, I doubt that I will go back and swap out the switches. - Even after replacing the switches, I still have 2 with intermittent chatter (detected with the Switch Hitter program). - It is difficult to remove the rather tight-fitting keycaps without pulling out the switches and incurring the risk of bending the switch legs when reinstalling them. - The typing sound and feel are not nearly as nice as those of a genuine HHKB, but this is a matter of personal preference. I much prefer Topre switches to Cherry or Cherry clones. - Another personal preference: I used my own conical feet for the rear of the keyboard to raise it to the same level as my actual HHKB. - I was disappointed that the "Meta" and "Hyper" keycaps were not included.
** Since writing these comments, I have gained more experience with the Tokyo60, and I have changed my original stance. I have posted a largely favorable review in the Reviews section:
