Our vendor has informed us that the Matias Mini Pro Keyboards will be available to them by the end of the month. The vendor will be working hard to prepare this order for shipment and aim to ship the keyboards from their location by the last week of April. We are currently expecting to have the group's order shipped out of our warehouse to the group by the first week of May.
We understand that the additional wait time is undesirable. If you would prefer to cancel your order, please contact Community Support using the “Contact Support” button in your transactions page (https://massdrop.com/transactions).
You can expect an update from us on 4/25 or sooner if something comes up.
If you have any questions, please visit our Help Center (https://massdrop.com/helpcenter).
We would like to apologize for the mix up from the last post. The expected ship date is 4/18, and not 3/30 as previously stated. We would like to update the group that the vendor was able to ship over half of the bulk order ahead of schedule. If you are part of this first batch, you will receive an email with tracking info by the end of day tomorrow.
A handful of orders are still being processed by the manufacturer and we are currently waiting for confirmation from our vendor. The moment we receive confirmation regarding the shipping schedule from the vendor, we will provide you all with updated information.
Thanks again for your patience and expect an update from us on 4/15 or sooner if something comes up.
Thanks again for joining this drop! We have submitted the group's order with the vendor for the Matias Mini Pro Keyboards and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where our warehouse team will break it up into individual orders and ship them. The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 3/30.

Can you lower your Shipping fee to Taiwan? I think $31.25 in overprice!
dannyjheng
Funny thing those are made in Taiwan
"As for the keycaps themselves, their sculpted shapes cup your fingers perfectly, keeping your digits dexterous and as cozy" Say no more! I'm in.
https://twitter.com/michaelscottsmi?lang=en Here's a Laptop Pro with (dyed) keycaps from an Apple Extended Keyboard. Actually, AEK's left shift is the only one that fits the Matias boards so you have to source an additional shift keycap from another board. And the option keys are from the original Matias caps. The PBT caps from the AEK are a big improvement in feel and sound.

WOW that Plasti Dip and dyed keys... I agree - no caffeine necessary
Does anyone know if the keycaps on this board are different heights, or could you move the caps around for a different layout, like dvorak?
XenDeKhra
No, they look different... In the top photo on the description page, the angle on the escape key looks about 90 degrees (angle between top surface and back surface), while the bottom row looks definitely more than 90 degrees.
Does the quiet pro come in white?
Mine didn't make it 1.5 months. At the same time it felt cheaply made, not something that was worthy of a $130+ price tag. At $90 here, I am certainly more interested.
What kind of keycaps would these use? Just curious
air_moose
i also would like to know
I wish they would make the quiet mini with the Apple legend. I will have to keep using my Apple keyboard until they do.

The chattering with the quiet click switches must be a problem with the Matias brand boards. I had a Laptop Pro that chattered but my KB Paradise V60 Mini with the same switches is rock solid. I'd love to jump in on one of the tactile boards here but my past experience with the aforementioned Laptop Pro has me gunshy.
saturnotaku
My Laptop Pro worked flawlessly in the first 1.5+ years before the backspace key started chattering. I think it is just a function of time. (I wish you best of luck with the V60.)
A while ago I wrote Matias asking if they could produce the Matias Mini Pro for the PC (the smaller one with clicky switches).
Matias write me that there was no demand for a silent Mac or a clicky PC layout. At these prices I'll look instead at the newest ALPS clones that have popped up in recent months.
Kriston
Hypothetically speaking, one just need to swap the keycaps, yes?
kschang
Well, I don't think so, they seem to have different sizes and you'd have to remap some keys.

Sadly the stock Keycaps on these are crap...and the Doubleshot Matias cap drops as of late i do not believe will fit these boards unless i am mistaken...so.. =/
How do we know which colour we're going to be ordering? There's only two options for tactile or quiet. .... oh... I think I get it now.
I own the tactile model (white) of this keyboard as well as Topre 87u 55g, Filco TKL in Blue and Brown, Leopold TKL in Red, Dell AT101w, and Unicomp Classic 101. The short stroke and tactility makes this keyboard my favorite for typing of the bunch.

I'm afraid to try the buckling spring, it will make my cherry MX green keyboard feel cheap. Cherry MX switches might last a long time but they clack like crazy, such that my MX Clear keyboard Was just as noisy as my present MX Green.
imaher
If you want quiet - as opposed to 'clack' - buckling springs are not the way to go. The quiet version of mini pro is quieter than the cherry mx Browns and give greater tactility.
Any chance there's an option for these in ISO? Or ANSI only?
LaggyMonster
Last month I joined a drop to get some keycaps with the ISO option, just to discover that it was unavailable in the end. I had to cancel that order. This lack of ISO love is a real shame. :/
I got a black Quiet Click during a previous drop and like it a lot! The keys are very tactile, and it does have a unique feel.
If there's any quibble is that the Matias Alps Quiet Click keys feel just a bit light and hollow to me compared to Cherry MX and clones. Maybe it's because the shaft is a hollow rectangular tube instead of a solid plastic cross (Cherry MX)?
In any case, not a big deal. It's a usable and solid keyboard. The Quiet Clicks have an interesting damped feeling, almost.
I think I very slightly prefer the clicky version, however, for its satisfying low frequency click. Somehow, the addition of the click makes the key action seem more complete, though the Quiet Clicks are an absolutely fine choice.
Oddly, I had also purchased a V80 with Matias Quiet Clicks, and they are nowhere as tactile as those in Matias' own board. I don't know if it was a fluke, but the V80 version seems a big step below this Matias board. At least the V80 I received.
As a description, the keys in the V80 seemed light, rattley, and cheap feeling. Add to that weak tactility, and the experience was like a lightweight, cheap, rattley, insubstantial, hollow, plastic typing feel that I just hate. Plus the stabilized keys were really clacky until I lubricated them, and even so they improved just slightly. That V80 Quiet Click was a huge dud for me, though it may be the specific board I got.
The Quiet version of this Matias Mini Pro is so much better in comparison. Recommend!
K.T.N
I've found that Keycaps have a surprisingly large effect on the feel of these switches. I swapped the cheap Maria's caps on my Ergo Pro for an Apple Extended Keyboard set and it eliminated the rattley feel. Are the V80 capserhaps even worse than the Matias caps? If so, this might be the source of your issues with the V80.
RyanArr
Ryan, it may be the keycaps that are making my V80 board feel cheap, rattley, and mushy. I'm not sure.
I did order my board with a replacement Dolch ABS keyset pre installed. So, no, these aren't the stock V80 caps. Which is a bummer, because those Dolch keys are supposed to be an upgrade.
I guess they are visually. And I'm not really sure if it is even those keycaps that are causing the problem as I don't have any other Alps compatible keys to throw on to compare. So I can't really say if it's the caps.
But again, those same Quiet Click keys in this Matias mini board feel really good and tactile. So it something with the V80 board or those replacement Dolch ABS keys. At least on the sample I have.
Are we going to see white/black options, or is the switch type the only choice for this drop?
Trench
Other options won't happen because this is all that is given: http://matias.ca/products/
But you're not alone, i do find the black glossy one "ugly", but the white one has the wrong switchtype for me.
Guess we can't have it all :(
Got mine this morning! This is my first mech keyboard, and I was on the fence between matias quiet clicks and cherry browns/clears, which were heavily recommended by friends since I am primarily typing. Glad I went with the matias.
General praise: - I love the actuation force; it is very satisfying to type on. - I have the quiet model and it is certainly quiet. It is interesting, reminds me of the difference between a trumpet/muted trumpet; almost unnatural. Between the tactile feedback, and the click from key contact, I am never wondering if I have succeeded, but it does not disturb anyone around me. (The secretaries' membrane boards are louder). - I know this is a personal thing, but the layout fits my typing style perfectly. It has just the right amount of navigation keys and my brain has already adjusted to "fn+pg dn" for "end". - I REALLY like having 3 usb ports right here. I use one to connect my trackpad receiver (because I am a jackass and use a trackpad), use another to connect my number pad; the other is free for usb key / dictaphone connection when needed. Small things, but still really convenient to have.
2 Critical comments: - The case looks cheap. Yup. It is actually very sturdy and I have to really twist it to see any flex. But, the piano black gloss finish reaks of cheap plastic. I feel bad since it is obviously intentional, but it would be much better with a matte finish to match the keys. - Next up, the keys feel cheap. Yup. They work fine and all that, but I will definitely end up hunting replacements. I know MD regularly sells the ALPS doubleshot ABS, but I am going grind on these for a while first.

We have some good news to share with everyone. Our vendor has been working closely with the factory to ensure that production goes smoothly. They expect to be able to ship our bulk order on 12/9, and transit time from their location typically takes about a week. We are currently right on schedule and are aiming to ship everything out of our warehouse before the estimated ship date of 12/21.
Expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 12/1 or sooner if something comes up.
I missed this by an hour! Looks like a long shot to get this drop back though.

Man there is a long time to shipping day :(
I wish keycaps for alps keys are more common...
The quiet click switches always bugged me, personally. If you hit them from the top of the key, there's a tactile bump, but if you hit them from the bottom of the key, it feels completely linear.
The clicky switches don't have this issue
Can't wait to get this one :)
