So has anyone ever compared this to the Jotenheim? That still seems like a better value with all the features; however, I would still go with the better sounding one.

elauI have heard them both with HD650s and it's close. Seems like the Matrix is pushing more power to the 650s and everything is so tight and controlled and the Schiit is a touch more on the delicate side...but hardly delicate and perhaps more involving. They were both quite different as I've been using a Crack/Speedball as my main for a few years. I do like the options on the Schiit, but have not heard the DAC, but that would probably be ideal for most people. I would likely go for the Matrix, though... tomorrow you may get a different answer. If Massdrop could get the JOTUNHEIM/DAC combo here for about $350-400, it would kill.

Motorrad@Motorrad So you're not hearing the Schiit treble glare that many others speak about? That's the only thing I'd be worried about for Schiit amps. As for the dac combo, I'd wait for the Jot multibit -- theoretically this would be the ultimate combo if there was no glare heh.

elauI have heard about the glare, but not experienced it. The amp I was listening to had a lot of hours on is so maybe burn in is the key there as I have experienced with some amps. Frankly, coming from the crack/speedball, most inexpensive s/s amps sound a bit glary. Haha. I hear you on the dac...my dac tastes do run to the higher end now. Not a big integrated components fan...but I still think the combo would sell loads.

MotorradJust came back fromt the California Audio Show this past weekend and I'm glad I heard the Jot; the treble glare is real to my ears and didn't want to listen for more than a few minutes. I think the Schiit DAC's are good, but the amps not so much. The Gumby was good but the Mjolnr 2 I would also pass on, as much as I'd like the aesthetics of a stack.

elauThis amp imo is much better (clean, very slightly warm, a bit laid back) than the Jot with it's glare. Gobs of headroom too but I prefer low gain if possible for most amps to keep distortion down.

elauI didn't get the integrated DAC for the Jot and with a Topping D30 and SMSL SU-8 I haven't found it terribly bright. I think it's the DAC more than the amp. I've found Xduoo and other SMSL DACs and amps brighter in comparison to my two main DACs using the cirrus logic and sabre chips along with a Topping A30, a Magni 3, and the Jot.
