PawPawDogI've been eyeing this DAC/AMP for a super long time lol, and I'm wondering how this compares to the DX7s as well. I have the Matrix HPA3 Balance Amp which I'm hoping to partner this with, but the asking price is just too much. For a DAC, the Quattro II has a top of the line 9018S chip while the DX7s is using a newer 9038 mobile version of the chip. I'm hoping @amirm can measure the Quattro II. I have love my Matrix balance amp, and think they're great product but most matrix products are not getting the attention they deserves (maybe due to lack of marketing?). The Quattro II is more like a DAC, with the amp is just a bonus. It is similarly close to the DX7 feature-wise. It powerful enough to drive low impedance headphones, but a little bit underwhelming in high impedance though.

d3rrlckI'm new to the world of DACS. Is this statement true: 9018S > 9038? What is "lost" with the mobile version?

ExocerAs far as I can tell, the mobile version has to take into power consumption into account so the mibile version only has one channel duplex to two while the regular ones has two channle circuts in it. May be with other compromise too. But since DX7s uses two 9038q2m which is newer than 9018 and regardless the chip used, it is how they sound matters.

PawPawDogThank you for the follow up. Hopefully the DX7s sounds good to my ears(I am anxiously awaiting mine as I did join that drop). Will keep an eye on this thread in the meantime.

ExocerI agree with @PawPawDog . Both 9018 and 9038 chips have been measured well to their specification. From what I read, I believe everyone is in agreement that there's really no audible difference between the two chips. You'll just need to decide which features you're going to buy into, both the DX7s and Quattro II offer similar features. I think you can't go wrong on both, but of course the DX7s is a lot cheaper (378 bucks), has balance headphone amp and offers a native DSD512 support if you're into that.

EminemWell good for you if it works for your HD650 but I like a more powerful amp with balance output.
