With a 48-millimeter case and plenty of functionality to warrant it, Maurice Lacroix’s Pontos S Supercharged Watch certainly lives up to its name. Characterized by its bold styling, the dial is loaded with three subdials and a date window. The chronograph features a 30-minute and 12-hour subdial located at 12 and 6 o’clock respectively. The subdial at 9 keeps track of running seconds. Also unique to the Pontos is the chrono pusher at 2 o’clock, which also sets the bidirectional rotating inner bezel. Don’t worry about taking the watch for a dive, either. It’s 200-meter water resistant.
With a recessed dial in deep black, the Prontos S gives off the impression of looking into a vault from above. Despite the overly dark aesthetic, nearly every aspect of the watch is accented with red—from the inner bezel and chronograph subdials, to the pusher at 2 o’clock and the stitching on the band. The watch is fitted with ETA Valgranges A07.211, an automatic movement of 24 jewels with a 46-hour power reserve. To protect it, it’s got a stainless steel case and domed sapphire crystal.
Despite being relatively young in the world of watches, Maurice Lacroix has consistently pushed the envelope of watch design with innovative movements, retrograde displays, chronographs, and moon-phase indications. Based in the Swiss Canton of Jura and headquartered in Zurich, it’s steadily becoming an industry leader thanks to a consistent preservation of Swiss watchmaking tradition without getting stuck in the past.
