In the flooring world, bamboo pretends to be wood; in the knife world, wood pretends to be bamboo. There is no logic in this place.

Can somebody confirm if this is actually rosewood? Massdrop's picture looks more like cocobolo to me. Rosewood should look like this.

fidgetingfinchI’m guessing your comment is from a prior drop, as the current one is limited to ebony scales, so this might be moot by now.  Anyway, be advised that cocobolo is arguably a rosewood, i.e., a member of the Dalbergia genus, specifically Dalbergia retusa, though it’s distinctive enough that it’s usually marketed only as cocobolo. That said, if the colors in your picture are true to life, I think your knife’s scales are more likely to be East Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia). To make up your own mind, check out rosewoods in the Wood Finder tool on The Wood Database (https://www.wood-database.com/).

FYI, the knife name is two syllables Ta Ke, which means bamboo in Japanese. Not the English take, as in "take my money!"

No clip and no lanyard hole? Why? How much does a hole cost! I really wanted one and it would have looked nice with a lanyard on it. I wonder if I could drill one out 🤔

For anyone that's interested - I sent the knife with the busted lock (see my reply to @Wayoftread below) back to Mcusta in Japan and they've offered to replace it with a new one free of charge.
I had that thing for the better part of a decade and they're still willing to do that - if that's not an indicator of a manufacturer standing behind their product, then I don't know what is.
10/10, Mcusta. Good job.

sfzsfzThat's awesome service! Do you have the contact info for Mcusta? I bought an MC-1 here on Massdrop and love it, but two of the torx screws were loose and fell out at some point so I'm missing a center stud and two screws. I just want to buy the replacements but have no idea how to reach them.

XymnslotI actually cheated a bit and got my native Japanese speaker mom to reach out to them. Their website is here: http://mcusta.jp/ and the email address their replies have been coming from is info@mcusta.jp
YMMV when trying to deal with them in English. Good luck.

Just to add my voice to the choir: Looks incredible, though personally find it uncomfortable to have large items like a knife loose in a pocket, so require a clip for my pocket knives. From what I've seen in the discussion threads though, it sounds like Mcusta has a good reputation for listening to feedback on features like this, so maybe they'll consider adding clips to some of these beautiful designs in the future!
