I already have 4 Metropolitans. I don't need another pair.

KAPS1M0Yes, you do. ;-)
4 is such a strange number. Why not make an clean half-dozen? And the colors are so pretty. And the price is what we've come to know and love from Massdrop. I've got 6. What's another 2? I know - I'm not helping. ;-)
*************** [EDIT: Due to dire financial concerns, I've had to withdraw from this drop. However, my personal circumstances should not dissuade anyone from joining. A more detailed and sincere review follows:] ***************
All kidding aside ...
[WARNING: LONG, BUT HOPEFULLY INFORMATIVE POST FOLLOWS:]
... these colors aren't even officially available in the US yet. I'm very impressed that Massdrop has 'em so quickly. Props to the team for landing this drop.
These are, IMO, one of the best non-disposable, very affordable, serious work-horse pens. They are well-balanced (posted or not), nearly indestructible, entry-level fountain pens. The converter included (in addition to the cartridge) is very adequate and hold nearly the same amount of ink as the cart. I have about 5 or 6 and use all of them every day.
The stainless steel nibs seem a little finer than other pilot nibs of the same size and offer virtually no line variation. However, they are among the smoothest nibs right out of the box that I've used. Usually, any initial scratchiness can be corrected with a quick (and easy) nib alignment - numerous videos about how to do this online.
For more about my review of these pens I would recommend checking out the thread for the "usual" Metropolitan drop. I have posted, reposted and yammered on incessantly about these. (I know, I'm being redundant and repeating myself.) There are many others who have written better posts in that thread as well.
One of my posts has examples (with photo) of the nibs that are compatible with these pens (from Plumix, Penmanship, 78g, Prera). I've added the original photo at the bottom of this post - all pens with an asterisk were purchased through Massdrop. As a gift for someone else (for the holidays) or for yourself, I strongly recommend considering this drop if you're looking for solid, work-horse pens in vibrant colors that look and work as well as pens of more than twice the price.
If you have any interest in these, this is a great drop for the regular Metropolitans. For these new colors, not widely available (if available at all), this is nearly a "can't lose" drop.
As usual, hope this helps.
Cheers.

GonzoTGreatYeah, I do. :(
I will get two or three more metropolitans. I'll just have to decide on which colours to get. It won't be this time but it won't be long. To paraphrase Liquid Snake "Not yet Pilot! It's not over yet!"
[I feel you. That's the thing with Massdrop, right? Just when you thought you were out, they pull you back in (OK I'm done with movie and video game references)]
Ps: Massdrop, good job on timing . The new colours haven't been officially released yet. So by dropping them here already, the drop will be fulfilled at the same time the pens are officially available. No extra waiting for a drop before Christmas. Pps: with 400+ people joining the drop in one day, I am thinking that our mini reviews and words of praise have become redundant. :P Nicely done people, enjoy your bright new pens!

KAPS1M0Hi everyone.
As @KAPS1M0 has observed, this is a mighty popular drop. And for good reason. The Metropolitan is one of the best "starter" fountain pens out there: it's refillable, looks WAY more expensive than it is (to those who don't know fountain pens), is very durable and reliable, has a very smooth-writing steel nib that tends to run on the fine side, even when compared to other nibs made by Pilot. The pen is very easy to maintain and can be easily used both with and without the cap posted. Also, as I posted earlier, the pen will accommodate a number of different nibs in addition to the sizes typically sold with the Metropolitan.
Many of those joining this drop are new to Massdrop, may be new to fountain pens and/or Pilot fountain pens and/or the Metropolitan, in particular. I wanted to clarify valid points raised and hopefully answer some questions some of you have. Although mentioned in my "fine print", I truly have no affiliations with Massdrop, Pilot or anything like that. I'm just a member who has some experience with this pen and who likes to research the crap out of stuff.
With that said, I've written quite a bit. I will be posting this in sections:
I. The converters (1-4) II. Alternative retailers (5 & 5a) III. The Massdrop experience (for those making their first purchase) and additional reasons why you might want to get this pen. (6 & 7)
As usual, I hope this helps anyone still considering and/or answers any lingering questions folks may have.
Cheers.

GonzoTGreatI too, am buying again! To all those thinking about joining in this drop, DO IT! I am new to fountain pens and the metropolitan was my first one and still is inked and ready. I just now have to decide which one to use! Thank you so much for all your insight as I love reading your reviews here on Massdrop!

GonzoTGreatTotally agree! It's one of the most under-rated workhorse pen out there! I've given away quite a few to colleagues to get them hooked on fountain pens!
