I think LinusTechTips did it, and the result were around 1 or 2% difference in pcmark, so it basically within the margin of error.

Are you unfamiliar with the rampant speculation that having radio broadcasting from your immediate vicinity 24/7 causes cancer? The immune system needs at least 16% downtown to repair the domage.

Actually this is quite a nice machine and works beautifully. Of course 8gb ram would be the preference but for light use 4 is sufficient. Only thing is, as has already been pointed out, the difficulty of repairing if it becomes faulty. M will replace it with a refurbished set if still under warranty. Outside warranty it'll cost quite a lot for a refurbished replacement.

Okay so I looked into this laptop a while ago and liked some aspects of it, then when this drop went up I had another look and I came across some information I thought might be useful to others.
First thing is the Surface Laptops are all on offer at the moment on Microsoft's US store, they are $200 off MSRP. This model costs a thousand dollars but is on sale for $800. You still get it for $40 less here but if you are in the market for more RAM or storage or a better CPU you can still save some cash on the Store.
Second thing is this laptop I think hits a nice sweetspot in terms of performance and specs vs pricepoint in some ways but there is a big caveat here. The inside of this laptop is pretty much glued together, it is very difficult to open so if you were planning to pick up this laptop for a cool $760 and then throw in a couple of 8GB modules and a bigger SSD, technically you can, practically it's a nightmare. iFixit have a teardown here:

As a last note I think this laptop might ship with Windows 10 S, apparently Microsoft have had a change of heart about Windows S but initially you bought this laptop and then went through a process to "upgrade" it to full Windows 10. It was a free upgrade with the plan being to increase the cost to a one time fee of $50 at a later date. This is something worth noting though as far as I'm aware Windows 10 S is now just a "mode" in Windows 10, you shouldn't have to pay the fee and theoretically it should be as simple as clicking a button in some part of the Control Panel. It is a niggle and for reference Windows 10 S is essentially Windows 10 but you can only use apps from the official Microsoft Store. Unfortunately the Microsoft Store is lacking even very popular Windows software like Google's Chrome browser, Valve's Steam store, Riot's League of Legends launcher etc. I imagine quite a number of Windows users will hit a wall with that limitation. Also you would be saddled with Edge browser and the search engine cannot be changed from Bing so yeah, Microsoft just like adding to injury.
It's kind of like Usain Bolt tweaks his knee and he visits a doctor who tells him he can run in the next big race and he will most likely win but in about five years his leg will explode taking out a large part of his home country with him. It does a lot right but a little under the covers it just gets pretty depressing. If you can live with these things though the screen on this thing is beautiful and the keyboard is very solid too.

ahamiltonWhile I feel that this exact model is a waste of money due to the lack of ram and somewhat limited amount of storage, Windows 10 S isn't really a limitation since once you install the new April 2018 update it turns into Windows 10 Pro and the S mode can simply be disabled.

ahamiltonPlease don't demean Chromebooks like that. At least they can run Chrome and Android apps, while W10s can't do even that much :D

Oh boy. Yay. This is *totally* the kind of stuff I joined Massdrop to purchase. Now if I could only decided between this and the drop for the refurbished Dell...

It's basically a nice internet browsing machine.
Trying to dump some old stock here?

whomad1215No kidding. If anyone is considering buying this, please do not waste your money. Anyone with basic computer knowledge can tell you this is a scam and a half.

whomad1215I could have lived with the 128GB SSD and the older i5 but 4GB of RAM is a bit on the actually painful side of things. Honestly I wasn't even aware they made a version of this laptop with 4GB of RAM. Shame really the screen on this thing is a beauty.
