I have a video here of R1 with Gateron Clears in it if anyone wants to hear what this board sounds like:
I think I might source some sort of foam to put under the PCB to absorb some of the "metalness" of the sound, but besides that, the plate is one of the nice sounding metal plates I've used (I've used a couple aluminum plates that manage to sound extremely cheap). I also have a single Zealios 67g in the corner (the Game key) and it sounds awesome.
Also, if anyone is interested in what kind of layouts you can program with a board like this, here's my layout: http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/gists/25b672d0b0a65c714868db0f74671111
I actually use the spacebar and enter keys at the bottom as function keys (as well as spacebar and enter), so now I have all the layers reachable with my thumbs! Crazy stuff.
evangsI actually just scrapped together some felt I found lying around and cut and holepunched up two sheets to put into my Minivan (and put a sheet of paper on top just in case). It worked CRAZY well, ping is very much reduced and the board sounds even better now. Thanks a ton dude!
y2bdRight on! Glad you liked the result. I have one board where I put a piece between the pcb and plate. It's awesome , but so much work to cut out switch holes and I think the felt underneath alone provides enough padding
evangscan we get a no keycap option but with switches for a minor discount? right now there's only no switches no keycaps just minivan parts or whole package. most of us already have more keycaps than we know what to do with but still want to buy a minivan + some switches.
