I have this if anyone has any questions for me. I actually saw it in this drop, and then went on Amazon and bought it because it's $45 shipped via Prime there, and waiting for Massdrop to ship this out to save less than $2 is silly.
The hardware is gorgeous. The glass is frosted so the light diffuses perfectly (no bright patches, it's just consistently illuminated), and it has a ground-glass texture so it's nice to hold.
The app is disgusting. Worst app on my phone, and that is not an exaggeration. It renders this thing near-unusable. I also have a Hue Go and for $80, the Hue Go has far worse hardware, but the app is at least usable.
But in the end, the better hardware on this means I'm keeping the Playbulb Sphere and returning the Hue Go. But man, I'd let them charge me $100 if they just integrated this Sphere with SmartThings or something like that. Truly a god-awful app.
Yes, you can set it up so that at a certain time of day, it will turn on and slowly increase in brightness. But for some reason, the color-wheel is not available to you in any of the automation settings, it's just a simple color slider. So you can't pick, for example, a warmer vs cooler white. You can just pick the brightness of the stock white that you want.
tl;dr: Awesome hardware, nearly ruined by how un-awesome the app is.
