I've been waiting on a non-wood, non-marble, non-fabric style wrist rest. I've had fabric mouse pads and wrist rests before and they all turn really nasty. I imagine the same will happen to wood. As for marble, it seems very prone to cracking. Now, I'm not sure how durable this is going be as I guess the "hinge" part will flex when you press down. I hope the outside is just a simple wipe to clean. In between the layers...seem hard to get to.

XenLauI am in a similar boat looking for something else. I feel that wood would be fine with a proper finish on top as long as they do a lot of layers. I haven't used a wood rest myself, but it should be OK.
I like this one, but not sure about the longevity of the hinge and having a fatigue fracture on it if there is no rest on the open end of the fold. I had been using plastic wrist wrests that I salvaged from Dell keyboards for the longest time, but they were all ABS plastic and eventually gained that ABS shine where I put my wrist.
