Anyone knows where to get a better cable? 1.2m is quite short, OK for DAP or phone use, but my headphone amp rig is a bit far from where I sit ... need 3m long cables.

JackoRX78I've also been searching for a replacement cable. Not sure where to find a good quality one that would be compatible.

jonRockI'm still thinking of finding another cable for the JP1. The original wirering is indeed special, this is why there is no right and left markings, this does not matter. In fact the wirering is simple. There is three TRS 3.5mm jacks. Each termination is wired the same way on the each of the three jacks. Odd, but working. This means the JP1 is not balanced despite what its wire would suggest. Now I wonder if it is worth doing. I replaced the pads as you suggested and I find the headphone better. Many thanks for that by the way. Besides, one pad was not OK and needed replacement anyway. I think LQI cable can make me the cable, but the JP1 is not a great heaphone. I find it decent no more and I am no so sure about spending more money in it. I should post a schematic of the wirering required by the JP1. I need to draw that down properly ...

JackoRX78What are the benefits of a balanced cord? And would it be possible to get one for the JP1? I have a Hidizs AP80 on the way, but I'm not sure if it has a balanced output.

jonRockThere is no real benefits using a balanced cable with heaphones. It is more related to the amp build and what the HP can take. Balanced vs Single Ended requires twice the circuity as the "hot" + and "cold" - are separated and managed by there own amp and OPA sections. True differential DAP starts with separated dac rails for the + and -. The end of it is, in theory better dynamics, better noise level with a lower noise floor. From the amp point of view it means more power. Some BTL (stereo to mono) switching give a amp 3 times more power to one channel. For example, 2x 150w give 1x 450w at the same 8 ohm load. Things are different with HP because the load is not like on loudspeakers. But the idea is more or less the same. The difference is that a HP needs to get balanced connectors also inside the cups. If the HP is not designed to get balanced connections, therefore signal, it can have some problems. It may show problems to the amp too because the grounding won't work as designed on the devices. The opposite is safe though, but still meaningless. Like balanced output from SE amps. No benefits except that you can also use this cable on a true balanced designed amp. If it uses a 4 pin stereo balanced XLR, the plug is usually better build and locked when plugged in. Electronically ... because the amp is SE, no difference, nor any difference in the way the HP will sound. Because the JP1 is not designed for balanced use, it is safe to stay in SE mode. Plus, the JP1 is easy to drive and in most cases the extra gain and power from a balanced amp is not necessary.
