GugmanA company called Verisonix made these headphones but I don't believe this company even exists anymore. I'm assuming Mitchell & Johnson is a renamed brand.
Sugar_FreeWell this gonna be really funny...we found two other different companies, but have absolutely same looking headphones. This can prove a lot, I think.
Sugar_FreeAs far as I read from internet the electret driver comes from Industrial Technology Reseach Institute (Taiwan government funded engeering/research institute). Verisonix (Taiwan company) licenced that and make dual driver products, then allied with M&J(English company) to promo headphones worldwide.
ZhiyaoYoungVerisonix, alias Cyberdrive alias (...), the same company that is now pursued for fraud in Taiwan, and made a disaster out of a Indiegogo campaign last year (digital player ProX for those who want to verify).
Not saying Mitchell & Johnson is the same company (probably not), but these headphones are DEFINITELY a Taiwanese OEM product that gets rebranded at will for new "brands" looking for easy profits with "trendy" products.
PS: a London-based company that limits shipping to the US ? This is getting old... Massdrop may as well stop accepting non-US based members, since we're getting less and less worldwide deals.
TienbasseAgree for most of your words. But can't understand the last sentence...I don't see a relation between "accepting non-US members" and "less worldwide deals"...Maybe some further explanations? Thank you.
ZhiyaoYoungThere are more and more deals with EU electronics that are limited to the US and a few non-EU countries, basically.
So of course, the brand decides, and Massdrop has to abide, but this is getting aggravating.
Why give Massdrop access to non-US people at all if they have access to less and less deals ? In EU, we already have to add 25% custom fees and VAT when we receive stuff, so guess what ? The number of interesting deals is now close to zero.
Go to the Focal Elex deal comments if you want more information. ;)
I live 150km from their manufacturing site for high-end headphones and don't have access to the MD deal while they ship for free to the US and Australia (6000-10000km).
TienbasseOh I see. I saw a lot of comments about that. I think I should expand my economy and marketing related knowledge to understand this better. Thank you for you information!
ZhiyaoYoungOH! WTF! I remember "digital player ProX". It is a total scam. If this headphone is made by the same company or a related company it could be a another scam. I don't trust anything near digital player ProX. They took money from music lover and left them with sadness, disappointment, and anger. My very good friend is one of them. I was hesitating to order it to a third party warehouse and then ship to Canada, because Zeos has not commented on this headphone. Now you guys share all this info. There is no way I will order them. Thank you guys!!
Mr.Shopper_iHi. Calling from India. I feel the pain of US-only access for some items. Similar customs issues. It’s always max applicable customs for the category. If you think it’s too much, fight it in court! Add to that third party shipping costs (like Borderlinx). I’ve used then twice before. Efficient, but expensive. At the end, no mass purchase advantage.
Alarmed by the issues raised by Mr.Shopper. Do you think we should wait for the Koss electrostatic re-drop? Must admit, the absence of an additional bulky energiser with the MJ2 is attractive.
Mr.Shopper_iThese headphones are not a scam, they are legit. They have been for sale for over a year. There are multiple reviews of them on line. One review has already been linked elsewhere in these comments. There is also a Mitchell & Johnson impressions thread at Head-Fi. Mitchell & Johnson also have a line of components and a Facebook page.
ZhiyaoYoungStill interested in these, the price is right. I would like to see some objective reviews from a reviewer who is knowledgeable with measurements though. If I am not mistaken they are "real"(electret) electrostat technology.
Mr.Shopper_iI don't think it's a scam either, and it's unfair to say it's "fake". My poor wording...but one thing can be sure, it's an OEM product which may not worth the money.
ebjredFrom what I read, it can be a choice in this price range. Lacking bass and details, high and mid range is okay. But forget about its technology. Its driver is not the same thing with Stax and Koss's drivers. I think this would not beat Stax SR-L300 in any way. But if you decide to give it a try, I'm looking forward to your reviews.
MaybealsoNo I didn't own a pair of that, but I heard it before. I have a pair of Kingsound H02, which is also poor in bass. I don't know about this M&J's headphones, either the Verisonix's. The lack of bass of Stax's lower end products could be a disadvantage, which is very common among electrostatic drivers. But what I mean is, I would spend money with some reputable companies instead of this one. I just don't trust it, and its products as well.
I know there's not a lot choice for Electrostatic headphones in this price range, but I will still get L300 or L500 if I really want to try it. If I care about the bass, I will pick a pair of dynamic headphones.
Sujay RaoThe 2 star rating also confused me. Then I figured out it isn't Nathan's rating of the MJ2! It is the average of all reader's ratings of the review. Look at the number next to the 5th star. It says 40 something. That is the number of readers that voted. If you click on the 4th or 5th star the yellow average will move to the right. I think readers are actually rating the review. It is confusing.
It is a good review. Not sure I would say they have light weight bass. Their bass level seems close to my Sennheiser HD600. Neither are bass monsters but most serious listeners would call them relatively neutral.
BarondlaYou’re right. It’s a rating of the review!
i am not a bass head. I am seriously interested, specially because there’s no extra energiser box to deal with. A portable electrostat is not something I saw coming.
The fact that they wont ship to India is a kick in the nuts. I will have to pay for third party routing like Borderlinx (It’s not just shipping. It’s their service charges too) and 23-30% customs in India.
Just kills the deal.
