Where's the price?

This is literally the price you can pick up a MM17 box on Tcgplayer.com
The more people willing to buy these boxes at outrageous prices, the higher the card values inside will go. Do we really need to be doing this?
I'd really like to see Massdrop move more toward a model where we pool our resources to buy from distributors at a lower price than retail.

That just isn't the case here. $20 dollar bills have a monumentally larger number of consumers interested in them than Masters 2017 boxes. Buying in bulk for a reduced rate applies to any good, no matter the rarity, when you are dealing with large quantities. Even more so if its a niche item. To give an example, if you had 200 Scooby-Doo lunch boxes from 1973 worth $140, its only worth that money if you can find a buyer. If you cant, they're worth nothing and just taking up space. If someone came to you and said "I'm buying all 1973 Scooby-Doo lunch boxes I find, but only for $139 each, you might be tempted by that deal, even if its a loss on the going rate, if you aren't getting better offers (or their value is dropping; or they're costing you money to store). We've both made examples of the extreme ends of the spectrum; reality is always in the middle. As long as the seller is selling at a profit, most will be willing to sell at a discounted rate for a larger order of product. There are many factors that enter into it, but the bottom line is, in business everything is negotiable if the moneys right.

You are correct in theory by what you say but in my opinion in reality it is not accurate. My guess is anyone supplying Massdrop with product such as MM2017 in qty at this point is someone who buys and sells out of print product. The remaining supply of unopened MM2017 is set and will never increase, but only decrease, over time. Thus, unless the supplier has a reason to believe the product is going to drop in value over time he would have no incentive to drop the price to sell more units if he is able to sell the units already at the price he is asking.. obviously if there are no buyers at a set price then yes, he may need to lower his price. One example that always caught my attention of a similar scenario involves an art gallery in Vegas. The famous artist does a painting and the gallery makes 100 limited and numbered reprints of the original. Their sales model is to raise the price by 20% for every 10 they sell. Thus the 1st 10 copies may be $500 each, the final 10 copies are $2500 each. Nothing changed other than as the supply went down and the price went up.
That m25 really made the market weird.

Man, looking back at the older comments, people were complaining about $250 price tag 5 weeks ago... Would have loved to pick up a box or two, but this price is not worth it.

That's probably what another post will say in 6 months if it keeps climbing.
I'm not sure where people are seeing Modern Masters 2017 for less than $250 consistently. I just checked eBay (2/28/2018 @ 5:29PM PST), and the absolute lowest box I see is listed at $235 with 7 watchers. The average price seems to be between $230 and $260. So, great for you if your local game store sells them cheaper, but for most people this doesn't seem like a terrible Drop

.
$250?? No deal here. My LGS sells them for $225. Bad drop.

Where's your store so I can buy them out?
Mandy
Wylie TX, and I actually bought the last one last week haha, sorry.
Way to jump from 185 - 210 dollars... really made this not worth it.
Apparently others believe otherwise since it is already sold out
Way too high a price unfortunately. The EV on these boxes is floating around $150 a box. The value just isn't there with so much concentrated in the mythic slot (basically all the value is in hitting one of the chase four: Liliana, Snapcaster, Tarmogoyf or Cavern of Souls). There's only eight rares worth anything (fetches + damnation, gobling guide and Blood Moon).

I agree. It needs to be 190ish to make it worth buying + free shipping.
Foil misty rainforest. Arid Mesa. Verdant catacombs. Linvala. Snap caster mage. 3 Path to exile and one foil plus two Inquisition of Kozliek.
That's not a bad box. This recent drop was kind to me.
I am sooooo tempted to do this again. My last box was unimpressive, but wasn't a dud, either. 1 fetch, goblin guide, 1 Lili, all of the Venser and Niv-Mizzet, 1 ds, 1 foil spell Pierce, and that's all I can remember off hand.
Maybe if I have more money to waste by the end of this. :)
This is a fair price at $179.99 shipped to the USA. Better than current BIN ebay prices which are around $185-$188 shipped.
I find it interesting that the price is back to around what is was before the set was revealed. The giant 1000+ box drop here sold out in no time at $176 shipped, I believe it was.

They just need to go back to the original MSRP on Masters at 6.99 the market decided, 9.99 is to high.
khedden
It was $169 + $10 for me.
i got mine today when it was set to come the 18th of july
This price is a joke. Do not waste your time on this. Especially if you aren't based in the USA with the free shipping.
BTW just a heads up for people that care about this:
Unlike unlimited run sets like standard sets (Battle for Zendikar, Kaladesh, Amonket, etc.) which come 6 booster boxes per a case - the unit that WotC produces from their factories to distributors - this set comes 4 booster boxes per a case. Expected values do vary from box to box but the numbers tend to be consistent across cases.
(I.E. Masterpieces in Kaladesh tend to show up one out of every 144 packs. This means there are 1.5 per case, and it is extremely rare to get a case without a masterpiece. Likewise you have a 25% chance of seeing a foil mythic per a box, but are more or less guaranteed to see 1 per case. )
Just don't do what I did and get 3 boxes, I had one good, one ok, and one terrible box. I only "made" $40 over the three. Which given what i pulled means I would have probably seen another Ok~Good box in the fourth box of the case.
How much is their price?
Warning the return on these is extremely volatile. Lost $162 on the 2 boxes I got last drop. :( And I got totally land trolled on my foils. It's a shame this set feels good but the price is still crap. $9.99 MSRP ruined this product before it even shipped from the manufacture.

i cancelled mine. I decided I wanted it cheaper and can receive it within 2 days of my order. lol can someone explain to me what massdrop is again?
Right now you can go on ebay and find it for 185 shipped and not have to wait nearly as long. I didnt even bother checking other places....
Any news on deliveries?
Can I join this drop first and delay the delivery of the items as I won't have an address for the first 2 weeks of June?
pika500
Don't worry, you don't need to delay it. Massdrop does that for you!
FrigOff
Best retort ever!
Amazon has it for 190 and some change free shipping and free one day delivery....
Once again, the price including shipping is right at market price... I would pass on this drop just like the other Modern Masters boxes...
I'm impressed even with shipping this was just under TCG low. Good job guys! (Thumbs Up!)
Not shipping until May 5th? Why so long after the drop has ended?
Anyone here know places that got better prices/shipping? Lol
with $13 sales tax in CA, this is not worth it when i can get for 195 at local game store
Can someone from Massdrop address why free shipping is plastered right on the front page of a drop, but for any drop that does include a shipping cost, it is now hidden behind the "Join Drop" button? Were complaints too loud about the high shipping costs of your products? Why withhold this information from your customers so they can make informed purchasing decisions?
I will no longer be purchasing any items from Massdrop until this is addressed, and I am far from the only one for whom this is an issue.
iamsirjoshua
If you want it to actually be fixed, then click "Join" on drops you'd want, then check the price, and then quit without joining the drop. They'll send you an email, so it IS one of the behavior things they track on the site. If enough people back out of buying, they'll do something. That's lost business, and they can quantify it.
Really wish I could filter out the drops that don't ship to Canada, seriously frustrating.
Borty
This has been a very common request. We'll be looking at this closely when we add new filtering options to drop listing pages and user settings. Sorry for the frustration :(
Borty
its a modern masters box even if it did ship to canada youd be paying 50+$ in fees at the border
just received mine, a part of like the third drop.
