Not sure where Massdrop is getting the fountain pen they're using for those bleedthrough pics ... I tested my Moleskine hardcover with a Pilot Custom 74 broad, a Platinum #3776 Broad, a Lamy 14k broad, and a TWSBI Eco broad, (all with heavily saturated inks) and no bleedthrough whatsoever. Certainly less than my Leuchtterm 1917 notebook and planner, and comparable with my Webbie. So, i dunno. I like Moleskine notebooks.

writerstephenI have a FP collection that runs the gamut from Aurora to Visconti, F to 1.3, and EVERY pen bleeds on Moleskine. EVERY pen, no matter the ink. This isnt rocket science, it comes down the gms of the paper, and so long as Moleskine offers substandard paper, Rhodia and Tomoe get all my business.

heartsleeve310Same here and some fp inks Moleskin paper won't even absorb, like the paper is waterproof. Too bad because they have quite a range of journals.

heartsleeve310It comes down to the coating of the paper, not always weight; look at Tomoe River's GSM vs Moleskine's. Tomoe is much lower, but it's coated.

heartsleeve310Moleskine is quite a bit more! Well, most of it is. Some Tomoe River is only a pinch lighter.
Standard Moleskine paper is 70gsm. You've got 52gsm Tomoe River paper in your notebook, which is pretty normal weight for Tomoe River; it's the same weight that's in the Hobonichi books. There's some 68gsm Tomoe River running around in some books (think Goulet and Hippo Noto), but that's still lighter than Moleskine, even just a little. Leuchtterm1917 is 80gsm, and holds up better, but it's not nearly as good as Tomoe River or Clairfontaine in terms of Fountain Pen friendliness. I like my Rhodia books for my journaling and Tomoe River for correspondence.

PostrockandcatsMoleskine - bleeds, ghosts... just generally very unfriendly to FP users... my everyday carry is a Rhodiarama webbie, and it rarely misbehaves... I have a good old new stock of Moleskines laying around that will never be used (by me) now that I've discovered better options. I think they'd go belly up if they didnt appeal to book hackers.

heartsleeve310I've been thrilled with my Webbie! I had a Moleskine for all of a month before ditching it. Leuchtterm isn't bad, just sensitive to really saturated inks.
