Was always on the fence on Mondaine's quartz watches, prefer the Stop To Go despite its over pricing. But Massdrop offering both the 36mm and 30mm at the same time, and this being Christmas season, I snapped one of each as a cute couple watch for my wife and I. Thanks MD :)

Nice design, decent price. But 36 mm will look very small on most men's wrists. I've got a 37 mm Seiko 5 SNK805, and I find myself wishing it had a slightly bigger watch-face on my medium-sized wrist.

Was initially very into this drop, but realized it would be far too small for a man's wrist.

HoddernityI'll add two things:
The crown is tiny. Had a hard time setting it the first time. Not a big deal since it is a quartz and keeps good time regardless of wear.
The band that came with it was much to small. I ended up buying https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IVO2QNK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which came out rather nicely.

I was ready to jump on this, but even with my pipsqueak 6.5" wrists, I fear that the watch will be too small at 36mm

optVThis would be the size watch from past worn for a good time. Only the more recent diver craze has lead to bigger and bigger. 6 to 7 inch wrist should have no trouble.
Consider the 1960s reissue Timex Marlin 36 mm.... Mad Men watch style and size. If you can wear that, you can wear this.
The color scheme would be great for today's Star Wars Storm Trooper fans looking for white/black EDC. Pair it with a solid white SAK and have a good start to that look.

this is the first watch I've bought for myself, for the minimalist design and low price. could anyone recommend other good watches with a similar price tage and clean simple aesthetics?

NMAN124Like the Orient Bambino version 3 (Bauhaus) for modern minimalist. 40.5mm width with 21mm lug. Available in four display colors... White, black, gray, blue. Massdrop has had them in the past for $130-$140. Great Automatic low price dress watch, but not the lower price of quartz. If willing to wait suspect another Massdrop offering in 2018.

I think they should rebrand as Mundane. Truth in advertising.

That's true, they also jack up the price for a few of these w/ minimal changes. The only truly different one is the helvicta line. That said the prices aren't enough to make too big a deal of it. That said I think the stop2go ones are too expensive for what they offer.

I really enjoy the minimalist design of Mondaine....
Yet.... I was hoping for a 20mm lug width and 38mm size. At the moment while this is a nice watch it's just not something (in it's current size) that would fit well into my collection.
Maybe next time, but those buying this watch are getting a solid watch if the dimensions of the watch are to their liking.
