Don't buy this here. Buy it on Amazon and get faster and cheaper shipping (I didn't even have Amazon Prime and mine got shipped from the US website to Canada in 3 days for $80). It's a great tablet for the price. Admittedly I don't have much experience with alternatives, but I did have apprehension about whether or not this will do the job, and I'm happy to say that for the price it absolutely does a great job.
The only problems are 1. The surface is a glossy glass like surface as opposed to a desired matte surface. This causes a) glare under too much light, and b) friction against your bare hands. You'll need one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Huion%C2%AE-Artist-Glove-Drawing-Tablet/dp/B0147WCE14 to avoid friction while drawing.
2. The color accuracy and brightness/contrast etc are GOOD but it is evidently not perfect. It is comparable to an entry level flat screen LED display ($100 USD range, that kind of thing).
3. Even though the pen has 2 buttons and an eraser, only one of the buttons can be rebound. The eraser remains the eraser, and the second button is set to double click and is grayed out and cannot be rebound for some reason. I suspect they will fix this in a driver update...hopefully.
4. Pen hover distance is about a centimeter. This isn't bad but there is no way to adjust it and I'd personally like it to be higher.
5. The pen tracking tends to cause the cursor to dance around a tiny little bit, about half a millimeter when the pen is held in place. Actually I'm not quite sure if it's the tracking doing this or if it's the glossiness/slipperyness of the screen.
Those are the only issues over the course of a month I've used it. I consider this to be an excellent value proposition. I am more than content to deal with these problems, as long as they don't get worse and the product lasts. The driver installed easily and works well. Although previous drivers from any other tablets must be uninstalled. I'm using it on Windows 10, through a DVI port, though VGA and HDMI are also available. Software compatibility is also very good. I primarily use it for Toon Boom Harmony and Photoshop, but I've also tried it with Adobe Illustrator and Animate (Flash), and TVPaint and they all work great.
IMO the stability of the drivers is the major advantage with the Monoprice vs other non Wacom units. Both Huion and XP Pen have models that cost a couple hundred more but have IPS displays, but I've found these Chinese manufacturers always tend to have some slight issue, be it driver compatibility with a certain Windows version, or lack of support for one particular program ("hey it works great on everything, but oh wait for some reason I don't have pressure sensitivity in Adobe Flash??"). You'll see this reflected in many reviews of these manufacturers. And to me it feels like taking a gamble on whether this will work for your computer and the software you use. Not only does this particular Monoprice seem to have a very good track record with most customers, but they have also already updated their driver several times since the product launched earlier this year, showing continued technical support for the product.
So TL;DR - Not perfect, but excellent value proposition that's well worth the money especially for the stability and compatibility it provides.
