Combining 1930s style with modern performance, the Nazionale Flex from Montegrappa ushers the golden era of fountain pens into the 21st century. With a distinctly Art Deco look accented by a “shiny circles” finish and 925 silver hardware, the Nazionale Flex impresses before its ink even hits the page Read More
Add a bit more and get a Montblanc, Pelikan, Pilot, or even Sailor KoP. It's pretty but so many better pens out there! Also, take a gander at vintage pens. The quality of flex nibs from vintage pens are on a whole other level!
Wait, do my eyes play tricks? Am I reading the price right for this...this...pen? Clearly that must be a typo because who in there right mind would fork over $450 for a fountain pen!? That's ridiculous! And to top it off, it doesn't even come with black ink. Instead they give you blue! It's bad enough that whoever buys into this is getting ripped off, but you add insult to injury with no other option than blue ink. If you're spending that much money on a pen, then there should be a fucking rainbow of ink colors to choose from. But nope, not even black, just blue. Well, if that's the only color in this pen comes with, then I'm gonna have to pass on this absurd offer. Good day to you, sir!
I don't think I am being unreasonable with this comment, I am genuinely surprised to see a celluloid, gold nibbed Montegrappa pen at this price. Do they worth your money? I dunno. I genuinely think value judgment is up to the person.
I restore old fountain pens and if you want this pen nobody is going to talk you out of it. That said you can buy some amazing and actually antique pens for this price point that not only write amazing but have the history AND all the problems that owning a fountain pen brings. That said nobody is going to buy a $400+ fountain pen on a whim so you know already if this is the pen for you. Happy hunting.
This is a beautiful pen and the price is very good. With celluloid body, silver trim, a flex nib, and piston filler and a style reminiscent of vintage pens, this looks really classy. At first I wondered why they did not continue the body pattern to the section, but then I realized it matches very nicely with the cap top and the filler section. Very nicely done. And this is the lowest price I have seen. If only I had not just purchased a MB 146 green striated...
Well, "good value" is subjective. To a pen collector, this pen at this price is a very good value. Whether any fountain pen should be this price is an entirely different question and is besides the point. No one who is not into fountain pens is likely to pay this much for a pen. But to a fountain pen collector, this is good price. Gold versus silver is a discussion and people differ which they prefer -- similar to the discussion about the case colours of watches.
mtozsuYes but I see no reason to not just make all of the hardware gold instead of gold and silver.
like I said in one of my other posts, white gold is always an option or even platinum. But not for these companies, that would upset their shareholders, and who notices this stuff anyways, right?
This is an excellent pen. I own the Indian summer version and the nib is my favourite of a large number I own. Value is a different issue. I got mine at a slightly lower price but that deal is not available now. Anyway this is a much better looking finish.
Thoroughly recommended
I have to give credit where credit is due, the list price is accurate and not inflated. This appears to be a great deal to boot if you're in the market for a Montegrappa FP.
Tzamaz was arguing that beautiful things can't be considered useful because usefulness requires a clear definition of what value is being added, while beauty is in the eye of the beer holder and beer makes things confusing.
I'm with you though: if you need the best shit then gawd dammit you need the best shit, and it better be expensive, not that crap shit. It don't matter that silk boxers are functionally no different from regular boxers, you still need it because silk is beautiful and you're beautiful.
somePurchaserExactly! Most things last a life time if they are quality. It’s SAD to be cheap, life is short, and even if it’s long the longer you go using shitty products the worse off your life and enjoyment is. I kind of got tired of arguing with the buy it for life sub Reddit because they think it’s cool to use the same thing for 30 years even if it’s trash or there are way better newer models out. Sure saving money is great and buying quality things that you have for a long time are great but there are certain things that if you don’t update or shell out the money you’ll pay ultimately even more in the end.
My favorite quote of all time is “you can either pay today, or tomorrow, but EVERYBODY’s got to pay” I can buy a cheap Patagonia jacket for like 150 or 200 bucks, or I can buy an arcteryx one for 650, which I did. Was it necessary? Yes, it goes back to my quote. Arcteryx will perform 3 times the Patagonia, therefore it’s foolish not to buy the best. Ultimately people who chip out still sort of paid the same because their products don’t last as long and don’t return as much performance.
Now where I make exceptions to that is,I was going to buy the Norvan sl, then I was going to buy a gore h5 for summer rain, but opted with the Columbia OutDry lightweight with vents in the back, a nice big pocket, and more durable fabric. So C actually in this case the most expensive one is the worst one with NO pockets, the LIGHTEST fabric (can’t even use a backpack with it, yikes), while the best one was the cheaper 150 dollar Columbia compared to the 300 of the gore h5 or the 350+ of the norvan sl.
So, ultimately it’s always good to do research and that just buy the most expensive thing. But if the most expensive thing is ALSO the best, then spend the fucking money you monkey.
edit: I actually have enough silk in my collection to dress up 3 king size bed sets with pillows sheets everything.
30momme silk hand made sheets. Trust me it’s not worth it over a really soft cotton, it’s just finicky tougher to wash and you don’t really even notice the difference because you don’t really move when you’re in bed you’re laying in one position. You can’t even find premade 30 momme silk sheets ANYWHERE online. They even make 40momme which is insanely expensive and really soft (felt a sample of it) if you want the best bang for your buck for your bed get a memory foam topper 4 inches, and a hand made platinum fox fur blanket from Sk furs. 💜😎
