Knife center has this exact knife for 30$. I prefer the mora companion heavy duty carbon blade to this knife, plus it's cheaper and lighter. And I would take neither if I'm going ultralight, because the opinel #8 is several ounces lighter, and carbon, and a smaller in size. You can even batton kindling with it. And it's an excellent striker on ferrocerium rod. So, why take a larger blade good for skinning game and processing wood on an ultralight backpacking trip? And why get the stainless over carbon for actual bushcraft purposes? And the MSRP is high.

BrewerytownYou'd take the Mora because it's sturdier, heavier, longer blade, better handle and because the stainless makes it fool proof. Not everyone wants the hassle of dealing with carbon blades (not much hassle I admit but stainless works fine so why not use it). And since when is 25 bucks a high price for a knife? You prefer the Opinel, fine. Doesn't mean it's objectively better.

JoomyI said the MSRP is high. This knife sells for much less than $39.99. It's on Amazon right now for 28$. And why does one need a sturdier, heavier, longer blade for ultra light backpacking? I guess I don't understand why this is an ultralight drop. People defended the far less useful titanium skinner that cost 80$ because "every ounce counts". And yet this is almost 5 ounces and quite overkill for ultralight backpacking. I own several moras. And I don't take them with me. By all means buy the knife if stainless steel is fit for your purpose. Everyone should own a mora imho. . I just don't get the "ultralight" designation.

BrewerytownFor me, the Opinel #8 has a janky lock that I could see being an issue. This is a fixed blade, and I like that a lot more. I nearly took off my pinky with a folder lock didn't.

BrewerytownUntil there is a strict "camping" category, this stuff will end up in Ultralight, just like all the other camping stuff. Relax, it's just a label, not a definition.

BrewerytownI would have to add that I have noticed an increase in the number of non-ultralight items in the UL category. I believe this may be happening in many Massdrop categories. There is no way to combat this and to debate this problem is a waste of comment space. Just let it go...
