I had this knife, cuts great, but rusts a but fast.
Kornel94
Carbon steel blades have many advantages over stainless steel and only one disadvantage, which you so succinctly identified. Four things to do with carbon steel blades to minimize rust: keep clean and dry, light coating of oil and force a patina. The first two should be our normal habit, the second can be achieved with too many substances to name them all. (IMHO food grade mineral oil is #1.) As for the last option, going back to page 4 in this thread will get you started and an Internet search will yield more options than you can shake a stick at. Cheers!
Would be great to see more options including stainless blade and colors.
Thanks for the honesty
Why is this not shipping to Australia? There are already knives on massdrop that have been folding knives that are able to be shipped, which are considered to be scrutinized more-so for imports here because they check for automatic knives (which are illegal here). Fixed blades are completely fine and very easy to get in, I import them all the time. Most recently a Ontario mk3 mod 0, which is a navy seal knife.
The Mora's are sold everywhere here. They are probably one of the easier things to import due to small size and the fact they are fixed blade. So I have no idea why you guys would have trouble getting them in, if you have even tried looking at it.
Again, you have to pay for the price for two when you only need one. When can we start doing these in singles? Id love to get a great deal on the companion HD; ONE companion HD. I don't need nor want two MG's and an HD as an add on.
Robv60
@Robv60 - we would love to sell these in singles, but we simply can't sell them as low a price as you'll find on some other sites. So if you want two or more knives, this is the drop for you. Otherwise the community already has access to a good deal on this knife elsewhere.
I believe Amazon has these listed for $12.43 each which makes this deal barely any better if you have prime.
Bonerable
The price you described is for the Morakniv Pro S, which you can add to this drop for an additional $10, which is a better deal than Amazon's price. The best I have found on prime for the Companion is $14.69 for the stainless steal blade.

Hey International Friends - Massdrop is now shipping some knives to some countries, but unfortunately that doesn't include fixed-blade knives just yet. So, no Moraknivs for you this time round. Sorry! @CPage @flavc3 @xxjaredxx
3rd'd ... to New Zealand now, too??
was gonna ask the same question........can these NOW be shipped to Canada??
Joined this drop 3 days ago and then last night I get a message that MD can now ship knives to directly to Canada, I really hope that this adjustment can be made to this drop as well, as having to pick these up at my US address nearly doubles the price for me on the overall costs! Hoping someone in the MD world reads this and can help me out here!
Really this is a great deal, as the best pricing I have found (and I have dozens of moras) for this model is $16 per- so, for $4 less per grab em while you can :)
Force an apple cider patina and oil them with ballistol and they wont rust - they strike firestarters well and are really amazing knives!

Why a two pack? Id buy if I didnt have to pay for two when i only want one. Should do a drop for just one or at least do one for a single HD version.
Robv60
I tried to rationalize buying two as well but all I really want is the HD version.
ccur5743
Same here. I already have a regular wooden handle mora so the only advantage of this version is the rubberized handle. Id like to ha e the thicker blade of the HD..... but not two of them. I guess i could buy a couple sets and make me some Freddy claws for wood processing. Would make things interesting at least.
Why the change in price form the last time?
I got my Moraknives today, and I have to say they are great! I noticed that the rear spine of the blade seems to have been ground down or filed down to form a flat edge--very interesting. I presume this is a factory retrofit--that is, the knives are filed down like this in-house by Morakniv. Maybe to perform better as a fire-starter?
Fatestorm
In addition to scraping a ferrocerium firestarter, that squared spine can be used to scrape tinder, smooth tool handles, remove bark, make cordage, flesh hides, etc. A squared spine can be almost as useful as the cutting edge.

I bought this on a previous drop. It comes with a nice edge. The only drawback I can find is that there is no hole in the handle for a dummy cord. I am not sure how confident I am with the case to keep it in place while walking through brushy areas. For peace of mind, I would like to dummy cord mine so it is not lost. I will probaly end up adding a modifcation to the handle. Otherwise, seems a good buy.
boconorm
We put a small loop of 1/8" shockcord through the belt loop of the sheath. I tied mine with a Fisherman's Knot so I can adjust the tension. A friend tied his with a Figure Eight knot so the loop is easier to grab with gloves on. When not planning on using the knife, such as when hiking, slip that loop over the handle. Holds it very securely. When in camp slip the loop off the handle so the knife is easier to draw and replace. Almost a year of hiking through heavy brush many hours each week and we haven't lost one yet.

That sounds like a decent idea, and obviously proven. I will give it a try. Thanks.

well how is he supposed to believe you now? :-) i guess we will have to write it down and mail it to him....that way its not from the internet

Lol. Yeah, thought that even as I wrote it.
Having been an outdoorsman since the 1970s, am amazed at all of the stuff that was considered ridiculous back then that has become the "only" way to go these days. We did not baton knives, worry about full tang, worry about counting ounces (no one even knew what grams were back then), our gear was steel and canvas, our food was in cans, etc. Oh the horror! It's a wonder we survived! Lol.
These survival myths came out of military survival schools and have very little to do with making our way in the woods on camping and backpacking trips. Paracord, knives as pry bars, magnesium for fire starting, waxed or PJ coated cotton balls, etc and more came from there. When you have an endless supply of paracord, cotton balls, etc free - courtesy of the military - of course you use them for everything.
When you are cutting your way out of a downed plane (which is where thick tough knives as pry bars with saw teeth on the spine came from) and only needing to survive a couple hours up to a couple days until rescued, your needs and priorities are vastly different than wandering the woods. Think about it, saws on knives are a bad idea from both safety and usefulness standpoints. The thicker the saw, the more wood we must remove. Thick knives do not cut as well and are harder to maintain in the field. None of that serves us well in the woods!
But hey, I have a totally different perspective than most between growing up on a homestead/farm and stomping the woods since before most of y'all were born. I've watched the progression of gear over skills and dollars over common sense that most have not been here or paying attention to see.
I'd stack any of us from back then against 'most anyone nowadays. We didn't bail, we improvised. We may have shivered through the night on occassion, but we learned our lesson and didn't make that mistake twice.... instead we made new ones! In the '80s I had a set of meals that the can from the first meal became my cook pot, the next my mug, then bowl, fry pan, hobo stove, etc. From the third day on had a full cook kit. Long story short is I think it's a shame most rely upon spending dollars on gear these days rather than skill and improvisation.
The tang on Moras reaches nearly to the end of the handle. In that regard, they are "full tang". Some will say "Moras are not full tang because the tang reduces in size within the handle". Well, have you ever seen any knife that doesn't??? Nope. Think about it, the handle would be too large to fit most hands if the tang remained the same height as most blades. Besides, the balance would be awful! Bottom line is, if you know what you're doing, it won't matter if the knife is full tang or not. If you don't know what you're doing, full tang isn't going to save you.
Cheers Rogerxd45, thanks for the chuckle! Hope you find the rant amusing, if not useful.
i really like the mora knives, they represent probably the best value on any new knives. i have 2 different models, one stainless and two carbon steel and i love all. however i dont feel like this is a very good deal at all, i was able to buy my knives for around $12 shipped give or take $1.00 off of ebay. (EDITED TO ADD)... so im not sure if the price changed or i just read it wrong when i originally made this post but $21.99+$2.97 shipping is an ok deal. I thought it said $27.99....which wouldnt be a good deal. so im sorry if i confused anyone even if you dont get this drop you should buy a mora knife of some kind. there are tons of different blade lengths and thicknesses available as well as a lot of options for the handle and sheath.
bottom line you wonn't be disappointed, i challenge anyone to find a better knife in this price range
