Is it me or is simply saying " carbon steel blade" sound like a line from a 1950's add for a knife? Maybe back in the days when people still sold knives made of iron and bronze but 21st century? If I can't find the blade via a handy reference like http://knifeinformer.com/discovering-the-best-knife-steel/ I'm not touching it.

RochambeauxToo bad. I grabbed the last knife from these guys. It came in yesterday and I shaved my wrist. It appears this model is the same with the rubberized grip, so I think it will get added to the stable.

LamarrI can do the same thing with a 20 cent razor blade. "Sharp" isn't really a defining quality for a knife these days.

RochambeauxI take it you've never owned a Mora knife. If you have had the chance to work with one you wouldn't make such an arrogant statement. I personally think the companion knife is the best bang for buck knife out there, period. Check YouTube videos for the companion, some survivalist swear by them.

RochambeauxAbsolutely not trying to be argumentative here, but honestly. It's a $10 knife. It's also a LOT of knife for the money. Millions of people swear by Moras for woodswalking/bushcraft purposes because it's all you really need. The fact is, if you are beating a knife hard enough to break it, then you or your technique are the problem, not the knife. The Mora is a fantastic knife for the money. Also, literally everything about this knife has been covered to an absurd level on the internet. Do a quick search. It's a stick-tang knife made of an inexpensive stainless (or carbon) steel. No, it's not M390 or S35Vn, and Mora doesn't make those claims. It's not a full tang quarter inch thick sharpened prybar either. It's just an honest, VERY sharp cheap knife. I find that many people who dislike Moras tend to be people that own something like a huge Becker or Bussekin knife that they enjoy using to beat on whatever they can find out in the woods and tend not to do much in the way of fine tasks like food prep or carving. Thick bladed large knives aren't great for food prep, in my experience.
For folks who have gotten past that point in their lives (or skipped it entirely), there are Moras.
I have many, many knives. I also have Moras. When I camp, I always have my Survive! Knives 4.1, at least one ESEE Izula, and a Rodent 9 for chopping purposes. I carry two Moras in my camp kitchen set-up, but what usually happens is that I get those Moras out and they become my defacto knife for the trip.
I would just end with this: why not give this knife a try? It's ten bucks. This will be the best $10 you've ever spent on a knife.

RochambeauxThe hardness is 58-60, Mora doesn't straight out say what particular steel it is but I'm sure that you know, being a knife guy and all, that although the type of steel is crucial, the heat treatment is more crucial. You can find plenty of knives with good steel but the heat treat makes it shine. No fanboi, I got my first Mora (the companion) this year, I've been collecting knives over 20 years. Moras are no frills, no bells and whistles knives. They do, however, perform as well as knives 10 times the price. I can't convince you, I didn't believe anything about the youtube videos I saw. I was like "they are just getting paid to talk it up". I bought the first one and fell in love with the performance for such, for a lack of a better word, a cheap knife. There is a saying, "It's a Mora", if you lose it, "It's a Mora" which means if you actually do you aren't out $100+. Take the shot and get one but as I said this one isn't my cup of tea and I have always said the companion is the best bang for buck knife, period, if used as a companion knife and not a heavy user knife even though these things go through all types of torture tests on youtube. RochambeauxMora's 'carbon steel' is some 1095 similar Swedish steel (edit: UHB20C steel, a little research found it it very close to 1095). Info taken from the Mora factory floor manager in the mora tours videos. Hope that answers your question.
