Why choose this over the EE Torrid Apex or another synthetic jacket?

AvocabroSynthetics break down fast when compressed. There is nothing on the market that compares to down with respect to weight, compression and longevity.

caddisClimashield doesn’t really break down Or compress. .. it’s a continuous filament. After even 20 washes it retains 95% of its warmth... down jackets lose warmth over time also no matter how you take care of it

Avocabro1) You hate geese. Or love oil companies. 2) Extended high humidity or extra wet days where you will be wearing it are not a big concern. 3) Longevity of the insulation after repeated compression and wear over the seasons (sometimes very noticeable in jackets around the elbows and armpits). Down rebounds nicely although high fill power down can have a little shorter lifespan than lower fills (still much longer than any synthetic). 4) If you die on a trip and nobody finds you, your down jacket will be about half more biodegradable than a synthetic, and the fill might make nice nesting material for local birdlings, so in that way it's like you're giving back for what you received. 5) Can compress it smaller if you want and not worry about point #3 (you can do that to synthetic, even Apex, if you want, but you just accelerate fiber crush and loss of warmth, which can't be fixed). 6) You want to be with the kids in Popular Group #A instead of Popular Group #B. 7) It's a fact that bears will only take one bite of a down-clad hiker after getting the first mouthful of feathers, but once they see synthetic fill they think it's cotton candy, so more bites until they figure it out.

There are a lot of great jackets these days to choose from, this is just one, and the Torrid is just another. Montbell and Rab are always worth a look, too. Nunatak if you want something ul and extra high quality with customization (and maybe someday Goosefeet and Borah will do these again, and Luke's sure did some nice pieces but I think his days are over).
