This is an incredible tent. I have one now that I have used for years. Spent 6 days tent bound on Denali inside this tent. By the end of the storm the tent was almost completely buried. Held up great. Looking to replace, mine starting to show some wear.

I own a Trango 3, which I have had for many years. Great tent. This is a 4 season tent, not a 3 season. Much more robust. Not mostly mesh, like the 3 season tents. Made for cold and inclement weather. You pay a price with the weight, but if you need to anticipate adverse conditions, this is a tent you would want. Competes with the high end Northface 4 season tents. I also own a Nemo Lohsi 3p tent which is a great 3 season tent, but I wouldn't use it for winter or early spring or late fall camping up here in Minnesota. With a couple dogs and 2 people, I would definitely go with the 3 or 4 person tent.

Anyone have any advice on the sizing? 2 person vs 4 person? I have two large dogs and would like to be able to fit one extra person at times, without lugging around too large of a tent

TbondSo it will be you and two dogs, plus potentially one extra person? I would go with the 2p or 3p. This tent is quite roomy inside that you could squeeze 2 campers and 2 dogs into the 2p, or fit nicely into the 3p (but then you'd have to carry the extra weight / bulk for the rest of the trips when it's only you and the dogs).

Similar question, I have a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 which is WAY lighter then this and only a bit smaller. Why would I want this tent? Is it for colder temps or something?

fr0z3nIt's designed for conditions you would expect to encounter in winter and/or above tree line. Winds and heavy snows that are potentially life threatening in the tent you mentioned, are easily handled by dedicated 4 season tents. It weighs more, but if you're overnighting in its intended environment, it would be reckless to not have the security.
