The specs for the price is really bad. If you built your own computer with $1350 you could have a 1080 in that build and a k processor with a z board.

Ehh, unless you skimp on some things then you're not getting a 1080 in that budget. You could fit a 7700K and 1070 into the budget with plenty of room left over for everything else, but if you try to get a 1080 in there without downgrading to an i5 then you'll likely have to sacrifice on the case, PSU, and/or memory.

LOL. Like I said, as entirely evident by the build list you posted, you're not getting a 1080 into that budget without some sacrifices.

EDIT: Nevermind, wasn't much of a problem. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/c36RHN Absolutely fine for gaming, but a 7700K paired with a 1070 would be a lot better for gaming and rendering.

With minor tweaking i have gotten the 7700k with a z170 board and a 1080 still under what the massdrop price is. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/nQLPYr

Your build doesn't include a wireless adapter, also this system comes with a windows license... so you should probably at least account for an OEM copy of Win10. I think it's fair to say this build shows that the MSI build is priced fairly competitively since it comes pre-built and pre-installed.

Awakening 's system is a bit closer but you can see corners were cut with a WD Green drive (vs MSI's 7200 offering) and still no OS.
Also, who the hell is SK hynix and is that SSD reliable? Is it the same hynix that made econo RAM a while back? That price point is pretty decent.

I could probably fit a Titan XP into the budget but that doesn't mean that I should. Your build is very imbalanced and there's no point in getting a K chip if you're going to get a crappy cooler that won't allow the CPU to overclock.

I was just trying to get the price down a bit, even if it was only $6. Spending that much more for a Barracuda or Blue isn't going to kill the budget. Most of the build is aesthetics-oriented as well and could easily be dropped by $50 with the GPU for a black 1070, $10-40 for the case, and a bit more in several other places.

Also, while that brand is new to the SSD market, that model SSD has shown to have great performance (on par with the 850 EVO) and exceeds most other SSDs in price:performance:capacity. It's usually closer to $40 for the 120GB model which is on par with the lower-end 120GB SSDs but offers much better performance for the same cost and capacity. I haven't seen any bad professional reviews for the SL308 SSDs.

That's good, I'll have to keep an eye on them. I personally would pony up the cash for a Samsung or Kingston, but that's just me. But I guess I'm also not the kind of person to cut corners to save a few bucks, I'd rather delay the project until I have the funds (or deals) to do it right.

I also wanted to make a point with Windows. I've never bought a copy of Windows and I've been using it all my life. Microsoft make more than enough money for me to waste my average income on an overpriced OS and beyond that they don't deserve to be paid for Windows 10 considering all the information they get from you out of it if you're an average user that doesn't go into the settings to disable all that crap. Download a portable version of KMSpico after installing Windows, run it, delete it, and you've now got a fully activated copy of Windows with no draw-backs.

IMO none of any budget has room for a Windows license when that money can go towards better hardware.

Except that if no one buys Windows, MS no longer has money to keep making Windows. These things aren't exactly free to develop. If you use a piece of software every day, support the devs by buying it once in a blue moon. Besides, if you can afford $1400 for the build, you can afford a $100 windows license.

Sure, but like I said earlier, it's beyond overpriced for how many people actually buy it and use it. I believe in supporting developers that could use the funding or that generally have a smaller development team, but a mega corporation like Microsoft isn't getting my money if I can get their products for free. That $100 is infinitely more valuable in consumer hands than it is in Microsoft's hands and it's not like any of that money is being added towards actual developers' pockets.

If they'd remove all the spyware in the next iteration of Windows or at least have it disabled by default then maybe I'd consider paying in some way like buying another Microsoft product of similar value, but my current OS for my home PCs is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB which is only available to businesses and would probably cost a small fortune as a consumer so there's no way I would actually buy that. I'd say buying a Microsoft product worth around $50 seems fair, but I'd be hard-pressed to ever offer more than that for a copy of Windows.

There is just no way to please you is there? You can replace the cooler with a Cooler Master Hyper T2 for $5 more. You can get a cheap wireless card for 10-15$ more. Finally you can not do a build with a titan xp because the card it self is over $1400. There is nothing in my build that is unbalanced, it is all fully functional, and is under the drop price.

You're wrong.

Again, with the cooler, the T2 is just as bad for a K chip and won't allow any kind of overclocking. Either get a 7500 for non-overclocking or a 7600K/7700K for overclocking, but DO NOT skimp on a cooler for them or you're wasting your money on the K. An H7 is the least that should be paired with a K chip.

The board you picked is a low-quality, minimal-feature, cheapest Z170 board. There's a lot to motherboards and this is a terrible pick to go with a K chip and especially so with this budget. The cheapest "good" Z270 board is the ASRock Z270 Pro4 at a little under $120 and there's no excuse to not have at least that in this budget.

Any wireless adapter under $30 is a bit mediocre, but yeah, I suppose you /can get a decent one for $15. I wouldn't game on it though.

You didn't allocate any of the budget for a good case. That one is mediocre at best and really, at this budget, there's no need to get such a cheap case.

NEVER cheap on the PSU. Unless you've got a budget of like $200 there's no excuse to get what you picked. There are several high quality and good-performing PSUs in the $45-75 range.

Some smaller points, but the optical drive really isn't necessary unless specified, that GPU you picked has a vibrant yellow backplate which wouldn't fair well with many color schemes (but your build doesn't really have a color scheme, but should at this budget), you can get a slightly better Seagate 2TB drive for a couple more dollars, the MX300 275GB is a much better SSD pick, and putting another $10 into the memory for a 3000MHz kit will be absolutely be worth it and will have performance gains in games.

---

Yes, a lot of a PC build is completely opinionated, but I truly believe that a lot of the components you picked are genuinely bad choices regardless of opinion. You have a lot of cheap components in this build that I'd expect in a <$500 budget build that simply don't belong in a $1350 build.
