no.
p.s. , its kinda funny ,a $700 card - but couldn't bother to add a piece of plastic/metal on the back of the card.

SkullbunnyAnd why does that matter? I couldn't give two shits about a backplate even if i wanted to. It's a piece of plastic, stop nitpicking.

And yeah , I don't give an eff. if that person didn't ask I would've never said a thing about it.
Yknow , there's difference between caring to voicing an opinion... >-> I could not care less for nvidia and their products. I do very much care for AMD and rather see them doing well and gaining fair popularity and being acknowledged for their feats.

SkullbunnyI don't base my comments on whether I like the company or not. I'll go to AMD when they provide a experience that is superior to what Nvidia provides. I'm not about team green or red.

SkullbunnyWell the sane thing to do then is to shut up. You're hurting AMD's rep more than anything here by being this obnoxious kid spamming comments with incoherent bullshit. No one who knows what they're talking about want AMD to disappear, everybody wants them to do well. Thing is, they don't at the moment. And don't think AMD's not fairly popular yet, they've been on the market for probably longer than you've been alive, and did fairly well in the past. They screwed up hard during a long time though, and we all hope Zen and Vega will really be better than Polaris has been until now. But they screwed themselves and 2016 will be NVidia's year.

SkullbunnyOkay, Let me break this down.
First off, You're argument of "Just get a dual RX480 ;)" Is simply invalid. 1 benchmark from 1 youtuber does not equal a entire community. Its like saying that 1 result means that all results are invalid. No, It just means 1 result is different than other results and the majority says something different.
Lets go over components of the RX 480 REF x2 vs the GTX 1080 FE. First off, what its made out of. As we all know the RX 480 has a 6 pin connector compared to the 8 on the 1080. I won't address this however as a positive for NVIDIA since people argued that the custom boards with a 8 pin and a 6 pin is better than a 8 pin when results in some cases proved different ie: JayzTwoCents. The Chipsets. On the NVIDIA Side we have the Pascal along with 2560 CUDA Cores. On the AMD Side we have the "4th Generation" Architecture along with 2304 Stream processors. I can't exactly judge 2 different CUDA/Processors along with the Architecture since those do not impact performance. What i can judge however is how much PSU consumption it is doing. The GTX 1080 FE does 180w. The RX 480 REF does 150w however since were comparing the NVIDIA Card to the crossfire configuration, thats 300w. That isnt even mentioning OC. Which while yes Overclocking on a REF or FE Card really should not be done, Would bring even more watts to that number. As for memory, The GTX 1080 FE ( or any 1080 ) Has 8 GB Of GDDR5X. The RX 480 has the 4GB GDDR5 along with the 8GB variant. Now you're argument was that you can "Unlock" the RX 480 and get 8GB on the 4GB variant. I wouldn't bet my wallet into that however. What if the card worked with a bios update that claimed that there was 16GB on the 8GB model, when in reality it simply doubled the actual memory to make it look like its 8GB of GDDR5? Until theres numbers comparing the 4GB model, Unlocked, and the 8GB model, I wouldn't bet my money on unlocking the card. Furthermore even if it did work, what would happen if the card happened to break down due to bad design or overheating? If you were under warranty you would literally have to send the card along with your receipt showing you ordered warranty under that product to the warranty company (AMD,SquareTrade,Asurion,WhoeverWarrantiesYourCard,) And when they try to test the card, they will find out the BIOS has been changed to the 8GB variant. They will send back the card claiming that there was a software modification and thus they cannot fix the card. So instead of spending that $40 - $50 Bucks on a 8GB variant, You have to spend $199+ On a New one. And even if it was 8 GB, Its GDDR5.. Which Would be worse than the GTX 1080 still due to it being GDDR5X. Material: Theres no question, The GTX 1080 FE is made out of a alluminum along with glass compared to the plastic and the non fancy look. Now does that mean the AMD one doesn't look nice? No. In fact i think both in aesthetics are very good looking (Although if we are comparing REF to FE Then one flaw would be that the REF from AMD does not have a backplate). Its just that if i was to judge on material, NVIDIA wins.
So for the GTX 1080 FE compared to the RX 480 has 2 more power connectors (Not a positive for NVIDIA just putting it here), More Efficient PSU consumption ( If you don't have powerful enough of a PSU then the cost goes up! :] ), Memory is better due to AMD's cards shady practices with the BIOS, and even then NVIDIA is better thanks to there GDDR5X, And NVIDIA even wins in material.
Now, you might of seen that i didnt mention the PSU problems via the pCie slot. You mentioned that "every card consumes more ban 75w from the pcie" Well then, why doesn't a 9xx/10xx or in fact the entire pc crash when its exceeding that limit? As Science Studio Proved, he had crashes in the middle of the benchmarks with the RX 480 on older motherboards. Furthermore, even if it will be fixed "with a BIOS update" it still in some ways doesn't excuse it. Why i didn't mention it however was because simply the power from a cable can be increased from 6 to 8 or 8 + 6 on custom coolers, however you criticized the GTX 1060 FE for having no SLI bridge. and why would they? Its A Founders card its terrible at overclocking compared to a Custom Board. To Put it simple, I think that a SLI bridge will likely be added on the custom boards. You're argument on NVIDIA not having a SLI bridge is hypocritical to the power issue that will be added on the custom coolers.
Now, I am not a NVIDIA Fanboy, in fact in my arguments i even showed the things that are equal with the cards. I did not even mention the benchmarks due to them varying. I'm just disproving your arguments regarding AMD. We might disagree, but the truth should be shown.

bingokemskiI give you one tip, read the whole conversation next time. Skullbunny responded and agreed to a lot of things. Would have saved you a lot of time. I do have to mention that your point about the SLI bridge for the 1060 is not completely valid. IF Nvidia does not support SLI on the 1060 which is stated at their own website, they do not, the drivers wont support/allow it. The chances are very slim that custom board designers will add SLI to it without any support from Nvidia.

jcoenenSo Skullbunny responded to.. whos post? You claimed Skullbunny responded but the information was very vague so i cant help address what you are saying. I thought you meant your post so i checked and all you were talking about was the "GTX 1060". Which yes i did talk about but only a quarter of my whole disagreement. Also, my point was people are wanting the RX 480 to have 8 power plugs on the custom coolers, yet Skullbunny decided to argue about the SLI bridge when it could be mapped on a custom cooler. And whos to say that NVIDIA has to support it? why would they be so restrictive of putting code in the driver that doesnt allow for SLI on one card in pacific? More importantly, if a GTX 1060 is a 980, couldn't you just get a 980 and put it in SLI if you wanted that experience? Also, wouldn't the 980 be cheaper since prices are going down?

bingokemskiRight , lets start from the Memory on it;
You edit the BIOS , just like you edit your MOBO Bios? you edit the card bios , you can switch between 8 to 4 at any given time and it shouldn't say you have. Every card has 8gb of memory , but the "4gb versions" has the other 4gb 'blocked'. I would accept the argument saying that you wouldn't wanna mess with that - and thats true. I personally got 2 XFX RX480s with 8gb each. But if there's a technical person who knows how to deal with it? they have it easy.
If you're gonna argue about looks and appearance we may aswell cut the discussion now. you can't argue "its non-fancy" because I personally find the RX480 alot fancier than the childish mechanical looking GTX series which is btw not made of metal and even its backplate - is plastic.
As for the backplate of the RX480 - now , it doesn't feature a backplate , its a $200 , nobody expected premium - we expected budget. BUT! XFX adds a backplate to all of its models - so if one wants a backplate? they should know where to go.
You said that "one benchmark from one youtuber doesn't count" - so why does "one crash from one youtuber" counts? , besides , i remember I heard it too but they said it was the MOBO not being able to exceed the PCI-E power consumption suggestion - AMD Released a fix and a solution regarding that in the 16.7.x Driver update.
Also , They can't add an SLI bridge , as Jcoenen said , if the card doesn't support it - they can't alter it to support it. they can't violate the card that NVIDIA made and make it something else o_o...
The 1060 is not a 980.
Look , i made a clear reasoning why they WOULDN'T want it to happen. They can't let 2 cheap cards of their OVERDO AN EXPENSIVE ONE - why would you buy the expensive one >->...
Power connections , display connections , cooling solutions - Has nothing to do with the card - and alot to do with the manufacturer. Its a layout that SITS ON THE CARD , its not PART OF THE CARD. it like you plug something to the wall - its not PART OF THE WALL , its connected to the wall.
So...whats your point?

SkullbunnyWoah, that's a dangerous statement to make regarding the RX 480 4GB->8GB. That's only applicable to reference and early editions of the RX 480 so they could push more volume. If you try to do it with an RX 480 that's not one, you'll brick the card and have voided warranty.

ByTheNineand how do you know that you'll brick it?...lol , have you tried?
Because you dont know if it'll brick . And every 4GB card actually contains 8GB of Physical memory but only lets u use 4GB.
But then again just like I chose to get the 8GB over 4GB , its up to the consumer and their risks.

SkullbunnyOkay, The Memory. If AMD stupidly packed a chip from a 8GB variant... As for the BIOS, if you got a personal technician that doesn't care about the version, then its fine. However, when you are dealing with a company typically the company will check for a BIOS update / Settings that it is on. if they were to find that the card BIOS has been changed to the 8GB variant when the warranty applies to the 4GB, they will send it back quite literally flipping you off because you tried to scam AMD and its suppliers out of $40-$50.
As for its appearance, It isn't fancy. Its simple. And in my opinion it gets the job done. However, if you really want me to get into it: its made out of plastic compared to NVIDIA's window along with alluminum and plastic backplate. Seems to have better quality in materials in my opinion.
Okay, I was putting that as a sidenote as i didn't want that to get in the way of the view but still was being honest since were comparing the REF to the Founders.
That was simply a example. There were many other examples and even you said "i remember I heard it" So it wasn't from just "1 Source" it was from multiple.
"if the card doesn't support it - they can't alter it to support it". - Thats a lie. How come the other custom boards were able to hold more power then? Your argument is defeated.
http://prntscr.com/bqzyeb . Look at the image. Moving on.
We've seen NVIDIA make the FE a $100 premium. The power connectors claimed to overdue the FE. Not even mentioning the coolers so, if every other custom board does better than NVIDIAs, why cant they?
You quite literally ignored that i was comparing the REF RX 480. Pacifically the one from AMD and Pacifically the one from NVIDIA. You seem to have gotten it earlier when you mentioned the XFX on the backplate so why haven't you now?

bingokemskiSkullbunny responded to one of my posts. And simply if Nvidia does not support it it does simply not work since the GPU also does not support it. It is not just adding a connector too the card... I quote from the Nvidia website:
"Do you have dedicated hardware for NVIDIA SLI technology or is it just software? Yes. NVIDIA GPUs combined with an SLI®-Certified motherboard (which ships with the proprietary NVIDIA SLI connector) are the necessary building blocks for the SLI platform. Dedicated scalability logic in each GPU and a digital interface between GPUs (the SLI connector) enable this logic. In addition, a full software suite of advanced rendering algorithms provide the best image quality."*

SkullbunnyUhh I just wanted to comment that I think the 8GB on the 4GB SKUs thing was confirmed to be solely for review units. The retail SKUs will have only 4GB of actual physical memory, they just didn't want to send reviewers 2 cards, so they could just switch the BIOS to "review both" the 4 and 8GB models with 1 card.

techwizGamers Nexus made a video showing how to do it - they used a gigabyte ref 480 , aka what's being publicly sold. The review units actually came with the right tools to do the transformation - but yeah no the 4gb , atleast some , the majority I assume, contains 8gb.
But I really don't know and really don't Care enough to discuss it anymore. Sorry bud <3.

SkullbunnyI mean it should work but I wouldn't go about recommending that people buy 4GB cards and flash 8GB BIOS on them... it will run fine but as soon as they break the 4GB mark their cards will crash. IMO, would not recommend banking on getting an 8GB VRAM card out of a 4GB purchase. It's even documented in the description, it probably will not work with every card.
