it-manWhat would the price be for a comparable spec? Would you find specs like this around the same price?

Pewx2Honestly, this isn't a very good "Deal". You can get a much better laptop for around $17-1800. Depending on what your needs are. You can get a 15.6 inch laptop with an i5 7600k (desktop CPU) paired with a gtx 1070 for $1600 (60 hz screen). You can bump the screen up to 120hz, if you so choose... but that would put it at $1800. Look into the Eurocom Tornado F5, make sure to change the i7 6700k to an i5 7600k though. For gaming, the i5 would suffice... and be MUCH more powerful than the i7 6820hk (laptop BGA crapware). You will also want to buy a second stick of 8gb ram to stick into the laptop at some point. *NOTE* Do not pay for the RAM provided by Eurocom, buy a secondary stick from a third party. Eurocom overcharges for RAM. Depending on the games you're into, 8GB may be enough anyhow.
The cool thing about the Tornado F5 is that you can upgrade the components, they are not soldered onto the board. So, when coffee lake comes out (and if it's on the same socket) you will be able to upgrade. Similarly, you can put a gtx 1080 in the machine further down the line... and sell off the gtx 1070 chip. Even better, the next generation chips may be compatible with the Tornado F5... we just won't know until they come out. The only true limit is whether the chip physically fits, and whether or not the power draw is similar.
It is also important to note that Eurocom has military and student discounts, I know the student discount is 10%... I imagine the military is similar.
If you want something more sleek, you have options there as well... you can get a laptop with a gtx 1060 and an i7 7700hq for $1000. Look into the Clevo N850HP6. If you purchase the laptop through GentechPC, you can choose the (now free) option of applying coollabratory liquid ultra on the CPU/GPU. This will keep the temperatures down on a relatively warm machine.
Unfortunately, there aren't any good slim laptops that pack a 1070. However, another option other than the Tornado F5 is the Clevo P775dm3g... but it will be more expensive than the Tornado.
Hope that helps? There are other more traditional laptops to consider as well... I just wouldn't as these machines are about the best price/performance you can find. The Tornado is an amazing machine for the price.

MassdropNewbYou took a good time to do your reply, and for that, i drop my hat to you. That said, i think you are a Sager/Clevo fan, i have owned both, and both companies build great gaming laptops, but as personal preference, i like more the designs that msi has done over the past 5 years
About the 6820K being not so good.... well it can be OC to 4.0ghz, in those range it will beat a 7600k only second to the 6700k/7700k and probably the newer 7820K.
Have you seen the users on NBR about Clevo laptops with desktop i7, they have to undervolt it heavily to be able to cool them off, personally ill stick with laptop cpus for my laptops, until intel removes their mobile i7 skus, im not saying its a bad option, just to me, i dont want to deal with such a high cooling need, the laptops cpus are fine for what they offer and much easier to cool, if the gains were big and worth it, all manufactures would be on desktop cpus, but its mainly clevo doing it, MSI, Asus, Gigabyte/Aorus, Acer, Dell/Alienware, HP, lenove, etc all remain with laptop cpus.
About the screens, Clevo decide to go the route of IPS 60hz, while its a good quality screen overall, i still i prefer TN 120hz on this MSI for gaming, but to each to its own. Given that in some resellers you can opt for this screen, its not in all, and thats a $160 extra.
Now about the Clevo N850HP6 , its a value oriented laptop, so is their chassis and cooling, its a good option for someone on a tight budget that will be fine with 1060, but this laptop will never be on the same bracket as the GT73VR.
I tried to build on Eurocom the Tornado T5 with as close i could to this MSI, aside from the CPU ( i placed your suggested i5 7600K) and it went over $2200 vs $1700 of the MSI GT73VR, a very significant saving that can be placed toward a good m.2 NVME drive.
Again not trying to discredit Clevo/Sager/Eurocom at all, i have owned Sager in the past and they are a top gaming laptop company, what i do disagree is you initial statement, " Honestly, this isn't a very good "Deal". ".

AbulaThe i7 7700k can be overclocked to 5.2ghz +-. Not entirely sure about the i5, but there are very few constraints with heat. Similarly, the MSI laptops have heating issues with the i7 6820hk... their 7th generation units are fantastic in comparison.
If you noticed, the laptop I recommended was the F5 Tornado, which is NOT a clevo. The F5 Tornado IS a MSI laptop. It is a barebones version of the MSI G62, made a little thicker to house the cooling for the desktop CPU. The Clevo I recommended was a BGA i7 7700hq, 1060 gpu. For only $1000? That's a steal. I am not a Clevo fan, but when it serves practicality... it far outweighs the similar calibre MSI laptops. I do admit, the clevo can have heating issues... but when you paste it with liquid ultra, that goes away. Which is free for Clevo laptops when you buy through GentechPC.
Literally every single laptop is rife with heating issues, it's usually up to the user to handle them.
This isn't a very good deal... you get an i7 6820hk and a 1070 for 1700... when you can get an i7 7700k and a 1070 for 1700 as well... or an i5 7600k and a 1070 + 120hz screen for 1700. The i7 6820hk is also a terribly hot chip, that I would stay away from with all costs. If I did get it, I would paste it with liquid ultra. Something tells me the general public does not want to paste the laptop with liquid ultra themselves, it's just too much of a hassle.
Also, once you get in bed with the i7 6820hk... you're stuck with it for life. It is well known that coffee lake will be on the 1x51 architecture, which means it is likely going to be compatible with previous generations.
As for the price, these specs will land you at $1719: 120 hz TN panel GTX 1070 i5 7600k 8gb RAM (buy another stick separately if necessary, it's REALLY easy to put one in) 1TB 7200RPM hard drive
Now, it's missing the 128gb ssd that comes with the MSI, but it nets you a price of $1719. If you're a student or military, that's a $170 discount. Netting you a price of $1550 or so. So by comparison, if you were a student or in the military you could get a 120 hz screen, i7 7700k, (which can clock to 5.2ghz in this machine) and a gtx 1070 for the same price as the regular gt73vr with an overheating i7 6820hk. Of course, you'd still have to buy the extra RAM seperately... NEVER buy RAM from Eurocom, they overcharge like crazy.
Side note, you used to be able to add another $100 savings to the Tornado by de-selecting g-sync. Considering the TN panels don't support gsync in the first place, it would get the machine to be about $1500 for the specs above. Was quite a nice deal, wish they still did that :P
Generally Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte are overly priced for what you get... and to boot, they pre-load a bunch of crapware on your machine... forcing you to refresh the OS as soon as you get it.
The only thing I can think of for choosing the g73vr over this barebones MSI laptop is if I absolutely needed 17 inches of space, and even then... I'd hop to the P775 clevo. So truly the only thing that would keep me with the g73 is if it had Optimus technology to turn off the dGPU while on battery. And even then, I sure as heck would not be going with the 6th generation.

tldr; If I was a student or in/(have been in) the military I would go with: Tornado F5: 120 hz screen GTX 1070 i7 7700k 8 GB RAM 1 TB 7200 RPM Price: $1906 - %10 (190) = 1716.
If I was not in the military/student and could not go above $1700? I would go with the Tornado F5: 120 hz screen gtx 1070 i5 7600k 8 GB RAM 1 TB 7200 RPM = $1719
If I was on a budget and only had $1000 to spend? I would get the Clevo N850P6 from Gentechpc Changes I would make: + coollabs ultra (free) + remove sager logo (free) + 8GB RAM ($75) (for a total of 16 GB RAM) + 1tb 7200RPM (vs 5400RPM) HD +40 (If you can squeeze another 40, I would recommend) = $1114 -3% (cash discount) = $1081 . (with the 7200RPM drive) =$1074 - 3% (cash discount) = $1042 . (with 5400RPM drive)
