My Trident just arrived and I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure the 8GB of RAM that it has is half the 16 GB it was advertised as... Any ideas guys?
Thanks again for joining this drop! We have submitted the group's order with the vendor and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
We are currently working towards a new update system to reduce confusion in the Discussion and in the interim, all future updates on this drop will be sent directly by e-mail. Please verify your email address is correct under your settings so that you receive the latest updates for the group. You can change your settings here: https://www.massdrop.com/settings/user_info
To read more about the new updates please go here: dro.ps/updates If you have any questions, please visit our Help Center (http://massdrop.com/helpcenter).
No disrespect to MSI or Massdrop, but you can build much better for less, and what you build will almost certainly be much easier to upgrade in the future. Imagine trying to install a new part in that tiny little case...
NEVER BUY! ONLY BUILD!
$1000 for a 1060? Yikes!

I see. Weird that they wouldn't update the specs list at the bottom if they're only selling the 16GB version. My bad. Still overpriced.
solBLACK
Indeed they should have paid more attention to the specs
"Drop limited to 2 units"
Well well fuck that.

This is DuoDrop, where two consumers pool their money together and buy two things for a discount!

Same, what is wrong with Massdrop these days!
Most notable example so far of "paying for the brand not the computer"

Fully agree. Msi does make incredible quality products but $1000 for a console looking pc with only a 1060? That's kinda sad
wow is that ugly. why is it red and slanted? what's wrong with a good simple modern design? do they think twelve year olds have $1200?

Keep in mind, FPS is limited by refresh rate, so you won't even see a difference past a point depending on the quality of your display.
Sinjai
yea, I'm planning on getting a 144hz monitor
I really wish this deal went on for longer cause i get my paycheck tomorrow and i cant buy it today so I'm screwed :(
A system with a GTX 1060 for over 1k dollars? thats a really weak offer. Who came up with this?

Yeah, but does your build have red accents? I think not.
I told you that shops like Fry's Electronics will price match a part list and put together the build for a small extra.
So again why would anyone want one of those?
Would be interested without keyboard and mouse. As im not really a gamer was looking at a ZOTAC - any suggestions?

retailstumble
true but not the competent with either a screwdriver or soldering iron.
retailstumble
You don't need to solder a thing! Also the screwdriving is pretty minimal- 20 screws or so in an average build.
Does anyone know which specific model or at least specific details on the keyboard and mouse they included ?
Anyone have a suggestion for a better mini-gaming PC? Would love to have a better video card, since this is only the 3gb version. Could handle a little more weight, but I want something portable enough to bring to a friend's house for a lazy day of gaming.
Don't mind spending a bit (up to $200ish) more. I know I could just shop parts, but I am not really skilled enough to put together a mini PC.

It is not hard to put together a computer at all. A little child can do it. But if you really wanna let someone else do it for you get a part list and take it to Fry's electronics or any other tech shop - they will price match and put it together for you for a small extra.
If i had to put together a PC for 1k right now i would probably build this: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/GQRH8K
As i said, take it to any decent electronics store and the people will build it for a few extra bucks.
St0rmr3v3ng3
that is almost exactly what i have and i love love it
Do yourself a favor and head over to Newegg.com or Amazon.com and price these parts out. Then, look at the combo deals that both sites have set up. With some maneuvering, I bet you can build a better rig (and a more expandable one) for less money, and probably free shipping.

You mean a mini ITX board? They are everywhere
Dmcgauley
No, more the volume of the case.
11/17/2016 $1069.99/$1059.99 $1,199.99 MSRP $17.50 SHIPPING TO: USA
The only way I can see this being worth it is if you're really in love with that case and/or unable to build your own tiny PC for whatever reason. Otherwise it would be about the same amount of money to build your own mini-itx or micro-atx PC out of comprable, standard form factor parts that will be easier to upgrade in the future.
You might even be able to compromise in a couple areas and upgrade to a 1070 for a very similar cost (like going with an i5 or i3 instead of the i7).

Do you think Fiber fix would strengthen the handles?
Echobreaker
I'm not sure, I've never worked with it personally.
If you include the shipping, the discount from the MSRP isn't worth it to get it from Massdrop. Build your own PC with the same parts, it's far cheaper too.
Build your own

dont stick your fingers in power supplys kids
Better off waiting for the Dan Cases A4-SFX. It's only 2 liters larger and you can put ANY full size GPU in it. Not to mention it's compatible with most mITX motherboards. The price for that is around $265 USD. Kinda high but ZERO upgrade limitations for future use.
Jowersman
Check out the Sentry by Dr.Zaber. 7L, mini itx, steel construction, full size graphics cards, $200USD. Looks like a Steam Box should, imo. No dust filters though.
Jowersman
The sentry looked like an interesting case. I was actually going to get it since I couldn't get my hands on the A4-SFX either. Instead I ended up getting the Ncase M1 which should be here in a few days since it has support for either 2 120mm AIO coolers or a 240mm AIO at 12 liters with a more cube like shape to keep dimensions low. For me this would probably be the better choice anyways since I have a GTX 1080 and the Asrock ITX x99 motherboard with an 8 core Xeon installed. This way I can put a 120mm AIO on the CPU and install a hybrid cooler on the 1080. Plus I think it looks a little better than either the A4 or the Dr. Zaber with support for a slot disk drive as well.
I would buy it if it was a 1070 or at least a 1060 6gb! could we please have the option to do that?
For the money, and horsepower, could Massdrop get the Acer Predator G1. I have one and love it and am looking to pick up a second.
It clearly says in the specs:
  • VRAM: 3GB/6GB GDDR5
How am I supposed to know wither the 1060 I'm getting is 3 or 6 GB? Also is the GPU upgradable in the future?
Chemicaloid
I was just about to ask the same question about the VRAM.   Significant difference between the two for high res games.  This needs to be clarified by Massdrop.
Chemicaloid
Apologies for the confusion but it is the 3GB version of the 1060 and the description has been updated.
Any Barebone option?
Disk drive ?

its still contentious among IT people, but I always go with disc = round circular object & disk = square object
