When users decide on Intel's HEDP (High End Desktop Platform) such as today's X99, they are willing to pay a premium all across the platform for upper echelon performance and features. A subset of these enthusiasts are seeking the best of the best, eschewing even $200-300 motherboards for those in the $500+ range. This rather small niche has been long dominated in reviews and user satisfaction by a handful of boards, typically capped off by Asus ROG "Rampage" lineage as the perennial king of the hill for overclocking, gaming, and other enthusiasts tasks and metrics. In the last few years other motherboard companies have started to take aim at Asus' ROG by positioning various "named' luxury brands of their own and as MSI has built themselves up into one of the most trusted names in motherboards (alongside Asus and Gigabyte, rounding out the top tier of manufacturers according to most reviewers and hardware enthusiasts.) it is clear that boards like the Godlike (and the slightly less expensive offerings) are designed to take aim at Asus ROG.
As I have been seeking an upgrade for my X99 platform, I've compared several boards in this tier and while the MSI "Godlike" is certainly a great board in its own right, when a user is spending $550+ you're looking for the best of the best, and I feel that in some ways it is eclipsed by its target competitor and current king of the hill, the Asus ROG Rampage V Edition 10 - https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-RAMPAGE-V-EDITION-10/ . While the boards have many similarities (note - they both have USB 3.1 at 10gb/s, the fastest standard currently and use the TypeC connector) , I find that there are some features that make the Asus a better buy for the money. For instance, someone earlier asked about WiFi - the MSI bundles a 2-pole receiver for 867mbps at 802.11AC, while the Asus offers 3 for 1300mbps giving the potential for better performance. While the MSI's audio is a cut above as it should be at this price range, the Asus goes above and beyond adding hardware similar to their well regarded stand-alone Xonar sound cards, plus a bay device. The MSI uses "KillerNIC" products for some of their networking, which thankfully have been improved under the aegis of Atheros and I would no longer count it against them, the Asus has Intel for both wired and wireless which some may prefer.
Compare a few other features as you like between the two and don't get me wrong, they're both highest-echelon boards and offer a wealth of features. However, given this kind of price range I'd pick the Asus Rampage V Edition 10 over the MSI Godlike Gaming Carbon as it has a few upgrades that just put it over the top. Just something to look into before putting down your money!

RanceThe 10 has better lighting, better build quality, and since 1tb M.2 SSDs will soon come out the Rampage already has that feature built in for the future. One thing that isn't worth the price on the GODLIKE besides the stupid font is that the "carbon fiber" is actually stickers...
