The picture is of the old model. So my million dollar question is what are we orderin. The 2017 models have a more rugged saw tooth pot holders. Are we getting the latest or the older version?
DrGingeYour link to MSR is only for the Universal model. Massdrop's photos on this drop are one thing (in fact, nearly to the ONLY thing) that they got right. If you look at all eight photos on this drop (click on one to see the whole sequence) you can note that #6 of 8 is labelled "WhisperLite"; #7 of 8 is labelled "WhisperLite International (+ $10)"; #8 of 8 is labelled "WhisperLite Universal (+ $50)". So the answer to your million dollar question is that which one you get depends on which one you order and how much you pay.
DrGingeI think you are missing the fact that there are 3 models of the WhisperLite stove. They are all sold separately in this drop and the listed price is for the base model. You would need to upgrade to the models with more features.
seenypaulAgain if you actually go to MSRgear.com the official web site if MSR I believe the only difference in the three models of whisperlight is the type of fuel it can use. Since 2017 whisperlight has been upgraded with different feet and arms that support the pots and pans. Also there are slight differences in the pump. So my original question is Massdrop just using old pics or are they selling the old model. The only difference in the three different whisperlights is the different fuels they use and the different jets. Universal is set up for all the different fuels. So is the pic a mistake or our we ordering the old version?
DrGingeYou don't understand that MSR sells all 3 variants still. They are all for sale on it's site. Massdrop is also arranging the group buy of any of the 3 variants.
The whisperlite on MSR's site is here.... . . It has round corners. https://www.msrgear.com/stoves/liquid-fuel-stoves/whisperlite
When you buy, you get the option to chose which one. There is an upgrade cost to move up through the 3 options.
Directly underneath the overview is the breakdown: "Note: At checkout, choose the WhisperLite (base price), WhisperLite International (+ $10), or WhisperLite Universal (+ $50). You can also add the Annual maintenance kit (+ $10) or the Trillium stove base (+ $20)."
There are multiple pictures because there are multiple choices. I honestly don't understand the confusion? Did you think the Universal was being sold for the base price?
CuylarSorry for the aggravation. I went back to MSRgeae.com
Originally I looked at the universal and international, and the basic. In my mind they all looked like the universal. I see my mistake. Sorry for driving you nuts.
DrGingeNo aggravation here. I’m just glad we figured out the disconnect. I am confused why they chose to keep the old band wire look for only one model. It seems to me like it would be cheaper if they use the same frame for each model and the only difference would be the jets
