I hate to be a buzzkill but I work with 304 stainless steel all the time. I sell the stuff. It's a non-hardenable steel with a high nickel content, low carbon, non magnetic. It's primarily used for it's corrosive resistance, a lawful requirement in restaurant kitchens (304 is not a knife steel). It's used in lots of stuff like car washes and counter tops, but I've never once seen it used for tools. Knowing what I know about 304, I would not buy this product.
It's more expensive than 410,420,430 because of it's suburb resistance to just about everything, but it can't be hardened. I know that all metals can be hardened by using the cold forge process, or cold hammering, but a CNC machine doesn't do that and cold hammering this thing would most likely ruin it's shape. I would just buy a Leatherman Squirt/Micra/Style for the same price. At least the Leatherman is hardened.

Illinois_knife_guyI've been vocal in past drops of this about how bad of a buy this is considering how expensive shipping is per unit but how are those Leatherman tools even a fair comparison? They aren't keychain sized at all.
Decidencebruh, really?
try google next time. The Leatherman Squirt, Leatherman Micra, and Leatherman Style are specifically engineered to go on your keychain.

Illinois_knife_guyThat is still unreasonably bulky for my jean pocket. Thats at least 4 keys thick.
DecidenceWell aren't you a pretty princess. Maybe stop wearing skinny jeans? or just don't bother getting a multi-tool. or just buy the key thing, i don't care about you.
It doesn't change the fact that 304 is not a tool steel, it's soft and it deforms pretty damn easily. they should have made the thing out of titanium or treated 8cr13mov, or Aluminum 7075-T6. Titanium and 7075-T6 can be annealed with pretty colors too, and 7075-T6 isn't that much more expensive than 304.

Illinois_knife_guyAgreed ~ I actually think this design has good utility, but they should have made it out of D2 or something tougher. I'd spring for a nice TI version potentially.

Illinois_knife_guylol don't get so butthurt bud, I am just saying you're not comparing apples to apples. I don't like carrying anything really, and neither does most of the world the way technology is going. Soon the only thing people will carry is a smart phone; wallet and keys integrated into one device.

DecidenceI agree with you and the OP. This drop should be made with something more durable. I don't wear skinny jeans, but I have big legs and I definitely do NOT want a Leatherman on my key chain. I am trying to minimize that footprint. I think this drop is perfect for that, but I am not buying for this price/durability. Next.
