Why do I see vintage Glaschutte marked Made in GDR? Is this the same company that used to make 10 dollar watches for Eastern block working stiffs?

dkzzzzBefore the wall came down there was a conglomerate of watchmakers under one heading that made a variety of so-so watches. This family (Mühle) was not a part of that group and only added watches to their line of navigation instruments in the 90's I believe.

dkzzzzDuring East German times watches from Glashuette were either GUB (Glashuetter Uhren Betriebe - Glasshuette watch factories) or Glashuette (although with cheaper movements). The by then 3rd generation of Muehle founders used to work for Glashuette after his Muehle company was taken over by the government. In the seventies Mr. Muehle founded Muehle again making nautical instruments. It wasn't until the nineties when Muehle made their first wrist watch.
