Has anyone actually had any luck getting this to work? I installed the drivers from the included CD and the most recent ones from the Musiland website. Nothing is working. I've got a Windows 7 PC.

Hey guys, I take it this doesn't work driverless (and probably not with Mac or Linux)?
Anyway, how bad/good are the drivers on windows? Is there an open source driver option?
Also, I guess I should ask how it sounds compared to the monoprice amp/dac (similar price) and onboard audio. My headphones don't have a high impedance.

Drivers suck, The DAC is barely better than intergrated if at all, and the AMP is the same story except at higher volumes it cuts out and sounds like shit.
$50 maybe, $100 no, just get a Schiit Magni 2 or something and role with internal DAC
From his earlier posts, it seems he doesn't own any other DACs/AMPs and just wishes for the budget for a Schiit stack, and even in an earlier post say that these Monitor02s are good for the price. He recommends getting a good AMP first then DAC when starting off, which doesn't really make sense since the DAC is the main component for audio quality and the AMP's main job is just something to help power the audiojack for high impedance headphones without coloring the sound. From what I can tell of the components used in this product, the DAC is one that's used in the Fiio E10k, whose predecessor (E10) is pretty well regarded and the E10k is an upgrade of that. As for the AMP, though I can't really find a modern year review of it, has been around for a decade and been pretty popular back some years.
Hello, sorry for my silly question, I'm noob in audio themes. All outputs are amplified? Can I connect active speakers to this device? I have the Mackie CR3 speakers.
PD: Sorry for my bad English.
Can anyone compare this to the Centrance Dacport?

Are there drivers for Mac available? And also what is the problem with the FCC rating?
I haven't got mine yet. Shouldn't it have arrived at the 11th or something? It said 9th on one of my mails, but that was a Saturday, but I still haven't got it...
No FCC ID either... not legal to sell in the US

oh. lol. thats kind of hilarious actually. kind amakes me worry about why the inside of the plastic wrapped box smelled like death. :p
Thanks for posting. Sounds odd though, I thought a DAC would have digital ins not outs. Maybe it's the headphone amp that needs external power?
I installed the latest driver, and everything on the windows side seems to be working. There are no warnings in device manager, the DAC shows up in foobar, but no audio. It's plugged into an USB3 port if that matters. I tried WASAPI and directsound. I have another DAC on this machine that works fine so I am fairly confident my setup works.

I'm in the same situation as you. I did some research and I found one post out there that says we need the external DC 5v-12 power supply to energize the analogue outputs. The digital outputs (?), according to the post are powered by the USB connection. Super pissed off
EDIT: 2015-05-06 I was wrong about requiring the DC power supply, although using it may provide better sound quality. I too upgraded the software from
http://www.musiland.cn/index.php/Product/show/id/195#
and then upgraded again to
http://www.musiland.cn/index.php/Download/show/id/78
I had to make sure that HP was selected for Analog output and that Mute was off. I chose to slide all volume controls to the max in this control panel. I did the same in iTunes on my PC. Now, I can control the volume using the knob on the DAC and when I press the knob, it mutes
Skelshy
the way I made it work was install the newest driver from here (http://www.musiland.com.cn/index.php/Product/show/id/195#) and set it up and then once it was all working I updated to 2.4.2.2 to fix the sleep/hibernating issue. i had to manually unmute it from the analog channel in the software to get it to actually play. it is worth noting the HP (headphone) and Line (RCA) channels both maintain their volume/mute when u switch between them so they can fuck ur head up a little. after that all i had to do was fix the sample rate and it worked fine.
I've gotten suggestions that I may want to use an external amp with this, anyone who uses it know if that's just people nitpicking or if this thing actually needs a better amp?
ok so as far as i can tell the PC says this should be working, but im getting no sound and i cannot see a mute button on the super lame interface. no startup errors and according to the interface its playing. any ideas and where is the mute button in the software? im using cplay as the interface but there is no mute button

It says up top the group is saving $629 ... I think the rest of the group is willing to pay the normal price in order for me to get the full $629 savings? Right group?
BTW listen to the person above, Ali-express can go horribly bad for you or go well. Make sure you check the sellers reviews/feedback thoroughly, make sure there isn't a pattern with the reviews/feedback as far as dates, terminology, etc. Test the waters, ask the seller a few questions, to see how long it takes to reply, their knowledge of the product. Be thorough and use your best judgement, if it seems shady move on. That said some sellers on their are legit and you will have zero problems.
Quick update for the group. We are in contact with the vendor and awaiting updated shipment estimates from them. We have a call scheduled first thing tomorrow morning and should get a bit more visibility in regards to when we can expect these in our warehouse.
We will update the group as soon as these are on the way. Currently we expect that these will be in our warehouse inline with the expected ship date listed in the drop description page.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 4/27 or sooner if something comes up.
Ok fuck it, I shoved the power brick and the DAC hasn't exploded.
seems to be working, theirs a slight hiss when no music is playing when I have it plugged in. Their isn't any noticeable difference music just seems a tad bit livelier but not enough for me to conclude anything (placebo maybe?)
I found a power brick that works!
Asian Power Devices WA-18G12U
it has an output of 12v 1.5A, that should be safe for the DAC right?

Could anyone with the same layout I have recommend this?
I have a Xonar U7. I have headphones plugged in My Kanto Yu5's plugged in via pdif
How easy is it to switch through inputs? Can I use one or the other? Can I use both at the same time?
People avoid buying from aliexpress, many bad feedback (mine included) from that site, it could go smoothly or very very bad.
My question is, i have a turntable but it doesnt play loud enought, would buying this help me? the output of my turntable is L/R and my speaker inputs are 3.5mm and L/R
Warhead
Hello Warhead, Your turntable outputs are L/R RCA connectors, right? No, this will not help you. You need a phonostage or a phono pre-amp. They are different names for the same thing. They amplify the weak signal coming out of the cartridge to the level of most other things you would plug into a pre-amp.
This device is designed to take input from a computer and then enable you to listen to the music with headphones plugged directly into it or it can output to a preamp with L/R RCA input connectors.
Best regards
jerlad
yes i saw this yesterday while researching the subject, thanks for replying tho :).
I currently use these with the K7xx and the K701s.
its pretty good for the price. but I think you're better off just going fuck it and getting a Schiit stack.
I had a Musiland 02 ($125 on ebay) for probably like 3.5 years before one of the channels went out. Worked well during that time though. Only problem was I had to go to a Chinese website to download drivers and the DAC would need drivers reinstalled every time it was unplugged. Not sure if they've fixed this as I haven't used it for probably 2 years.
FWIW you can already order this for less than the minimum drop on aliexpress many around ~$93
I use this as my daily driver, but rarely use the headphone outs, as i have a separate amplifier. The DAC itself is really nice for the price, even though it is hard getting used to the interface. That is the main gripe i have with this thing. I do not really need it for any OS other than Win, but if i recall correctly, this has no support for Mac or linux (Correct me if i am wrong).
Another thing to be weary of is that it needs USB 3.0 to be powered without a separate power brick.
The other thing is that the Musiland website is not available in any other language other than chineese, which makes it pretty much impossble to navigate. Other than that, its a great DAC for the price and works well.

I figured the mute button but im still tinkering with the rest of it. I got the panning channels, volume and eq pretty much figured out but like i cant figure out the rest of it at all. I think it uses hotkeys for a ton of stuff too -_-
Here is what it looks like.

. the WAVE section is the one you are most lightly to use. if you are using analog outputs (RCA or headphone jack) you really only need the Analog button under the WAVE section active. I have not used the ASIO section to anything as you need other devices to be able to connect to it.
if you go further down along the WAVE line, you get to the starting volume level. The DSP button is for the MU-DSP equalizer in the middle-top of the UI. I honestly have no clue what the MMDI does, but i assume it has something to do with the Musiland link. The buttons does nothing to anything to the DAC. Underneith we have two sections, one ANALOG and one DIGITAL. these are pretty self explanatory, just that the line button is for the RCA outputs and the HP button is for the HeadPhone jack. The digital section is pretty self explanatory so i wont go into that. the right section under the MUSILAND logo there is the ASIO thing... again, not using it so i have no clue what it really does, but it does not change anything with the sound.
We have the handy sample rate selector underneath that again, which is the thing most people are going to find interesting about this DAC. It goes all the way up to 384.0 kHz but might break some audio programs, so i usually just have it at 192.0 kHz for now. the rest should be pretty easy to understand, and with a little fiddling, it should be usable.
