Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.

Ribbon microphones were simply some of the first microphones (along with condenser microphones) made in the form factor we commonly know of today. They were basically an improvement over condenser microphones of the time, which were very poor quality compared to ribbon microphones in a variety of ways. Condensers and ribbon mics are resonsible for taking recording from an analog to a digital process, an improvement which is impossible to exaggerate in terms of its impact on the recording process. Before ribbons and condensers, you basically played sound into a big old horn which translated the acoustic energy into mechanical energy.
