Can I use headphones with a microphone with this adapter? Will the microphone work?

MdotMaxsonNo unfortunately, while you can use the headphones with a mic with this adapter, they will function as if the mic and controls don't exist. Neither the mic nor any inline controls are passed back to the iPhone/iPad. I purchased this for exactly this purpose, and am disappointed.
