I got one of the Ruler Watch Straps back in August of 2017.
Thinnest leather watch strap I have ever seen.
It did not make it a year before both studs ripped through the leather.
I really like the aesthetic, but I wish he would use some heavier duty leather.
gaberadeHey there! I appreciate the feedback. Since that campaign, and based on the feelings of others, I have upgraded the veg tan cowhide to an ever-so-slightly-thicker 4 oz version from the Hermann Oak tannery. It is noticeably more stout, and I've had nothing but positive words from those who've used them since.
With these Autumn Harvest straps, the leather is very different. It's a waxed 4 oz cowhide from Acadia leather, with a definite medium temper and high density to it. It holds up really well to stretching, and only gets more unique as you use it. The thickness is right on the money in terms of watch compatibility and comfort. Probably my favorite leather to date.
Anyway, hope that sheds some light!

nmankeySo you are admitting last time you used bad leather? But this time it will be different?

nmankeyWell, I guess I have to give the new leather a go, don't I?
Looking forward to it!
smallbitNope. As I explained in length, this is simply a different style of leather (of which there are many). It's a lot like comparing different types of wood; They can all be of a certain quality, just with very different appearances and uses.

nmankeyAwesome answer! Some leathers for instance shouldn't be used in watch straps. But hey, you are learning and the consumer is paying for it. New strap does look thicker for what it is worth.

nmankeyI don't mean to add gas to this fire, but I ordered a watch strap this past spring. Yeah, lovely design but way too thin and flimsy for any of the watches that I typically wear. Maybe OK for a quartz dress watch if you're going for a casual look. Tucked it away in a box with all the other straps I'll never use. Learned a $30 lesson.
josh_bI appreciate the constructive feedback! It's certainly not my intention that they feel "flimsy". But the thickness of the Rally Strap you ordered is in fact very carefully chosen to be more comfortable and adaptable to as many watch lugs as possible. It's not uncommon that a strap is too thick to fit between the watch body and the spring bars of a more conservative model. Thick leather passthrough straps also just don't flow over the wrist very well either. These work on most every watch I've tried, and never had any issues with their structure failing due to the aforementioned thickness. You are more than welcome to your opinion though. Just thought that I might shed some light on the design choices.

nmankeyThanks for taking the time to respond. And I appreciate the permission to have an opinion on a product that I paid for.
But at this point, you'll have to agree that it's a bit more than just an opinion. Others have expressed concerns about the durability of your straps in this thread. You say that you've never had any issues with the "structure" of your products, but didn't gaberade already describe how the studs ripped through his strap? In fact, you've acknowledged these problems by switching to a thicker leather.
Regarding your design choices: I appreciate that you've thought about these matters carefully. But your straps are subject to the same design constraints as leather nato bands. There are many nice leather natos sold at a similar price point; I would not describe any of them as flimsy. Are you not aware of comparable products that are already on the market?
I do admire the style of your bands, and I sincerely wish you success. I'm sure that your new and upgraded straps will appeal to many customers. For myself, I would not be interested in purchasing again from someone who thought it was OK to ship a product such as the one that I received.
