Best lens I have ever purchased, if you dont have a 35mm yet just buy one. Such an insanely versatile lens.

NJbonelessIt's a fantastic lens for the price. My only complaint is that it's very slow and the autofocus hunts excessively. Good for stuff that stands still. Not good for street shots or anything where speed is important.

NJbonelessHow's the noise on the autofocus for you? Mine sounds insanely loud compared to my kit 18-55 and 55-200, as well as the Nikon 50mm prime lenses that I also bought on MD. Incidentally, the 50mm is on a whole other league, it autofocuses super fast, it's nearly silent, it has a focus mark/ring, and the pictures it takes are crisp clear. Not to mention its great aperture. Of course, it's an FX lens so that's probably why the difference.
But anyway my 35mm sounds like gears are grinding inside when autofocusing, sounds really low quality.

Mario.PaulMine is also loud, I dont really care as the autofocus seems to be pretty quick for me. My lens wasnt a gray market like the ones sold on MD. Cheers

NJbonelessHmm I wish I knew other photographers irl, that way I could compare my sound to theirs. But it seems the 35mm DX we all have are loud so it doesn't matter, it's still one of my favorite lenses and it gets tons of use.

EvantelicoNot at all, the one you mentioned is a full frame 35mm prime and is superior to this one assuming its used on a full frame camera.

NJbonelessYes the lloper wanted a 35mm FX which is a full frame lens. I posted a link to the 35mm for FX format cameras. There is a 35mm for DX which this drop is and then a 35mm for FX. With DX being crop sensor and FX being full frame under Nikon.

EvantelicoThat was my dream lens as a noob but after learning more I found there are better offerings in terms of hardware with much lower price from manufacturers like Sigma and their art lenses. The 35mm 1.4 is my dream lens, but their Achilles heel is the proprietary Nikon/Canon autofocus protocol. Just another anti-competitive tactic to survive without offering better quality, features or price.
For budget I'd get something like this drop but for half a grand I'd go for a competitive company like Sigma. I finished my gear hunting almost two years ago so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Mario.PaulYeah manual focus can be a turn off for some on getting lenses, while some love it. Myself more than likely won't get a lot of lenses since I shoot with a DX body and it'll be a long time before I ever get a FX one. It'd be nice there were as many DX lenses as there are FX ones.
It'll probably take me more than two years to get lens that I would like due to by budget.

EvantelicoI'm exactly in the same boat. I have my DX body and a few cheap lenses as well as a good tripod and external flashes. Since I don't shoot professionally it's not feasible for me to get those sweet Sigma lenses any time soon.

Mario.PaulMy next thing is this lens refurbed and a decent i-TTL flash, monopod with base and a flashbender to have lighting when shooting cosplayers as I walk around at cons.
