Or the Tamron U.S. non-gray market equivalent with 6 year warranty is only $349 with $100 rebate and you can walk out of a camera store with it today. I almost joined this drop earlier, but ultimately went with the Tamron version and I'm absolutely in love with that lens. I'm so impressed with it that I want to try other Tamrons now.
And by the way I had to pay for shipping I could have gotten a better deal for the money I paid to ship this I am furious about that I think I am done with massdrop this is my last one they should have done it differently with this vender
Sending the orders in the manor it was sent is stupid to use UPS and then the post office is not creative and not less expensive if this is what they were trying to achieve is save themselves the costs of shipping it was shipped last week and I am still waiting for it instead of just dropping it in the post office not good not happy about my lens that is bouncing around from one career to another
Great news group! The vendor just confirmed that your orders are now on the way! Tracking has been uploaded to the transaction page. Please allow 24-48 hours for the page to reflect the latest status of your order.

If there’s anything else we can do to make your Massdrop experience better, feel free to contact us via “Contact Support” button in your transaction page: https://www.massdrop.com/transactions.
Thanks again for joining the drop with the community. We submitted the group’s order with the vendor for the Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED IF-ED AF-S VR Nikkor Zoom Lens shortly after the drop ended and they have begun preparing it for shipment.

Once the group’s order is ready at the vendor’s location, they will ship the packages individually to you as soon as possible.

Once we receive confirmation regarding the shipping schedule from the vendor, we will provide you guys with updated information on the status of your package.

Expect an update from us on 9/2 or sooner.
Currently in Canada that lens seems to be on sale pretty much everywhere and given the current exchange rate that drop is really not interesting :/
Also, USA market vs grey market is important. If you ever need to get it serviced, Nikon USA won't touch it if it is grey. Plus, Nikon apparently doesn't provide parts to third party repair companies anymore.

I don't know if you have owned any in the past, but be careful about 3rd party zoom lenses. They tend to have a lot more issues than Nikon/canon zooms!

Yeah, I've always been hesitant to go to the third parties and I still am. The only lens I have that's not a Nikon lens is a seldom used Fisheye so I definitely have my hang ups about going generic, but I've already had to ship my 8 month old d750 back to Nikon for warranty service and my old d300 suffered from the grease spots that Nikon claimed to be a myth for a long time.

In light of recent experience, I'm a little less willing to see the Nikon brand as being ironclad. The Tamron comes with a six year warranty and the opinions I've read from people who've owned both seem to point at the Tamron as the better bet so wish me luck. This'll be my first Tamron lens.
I've owned this lens for longer than I can remember. It is a great lens for the price. The focal length range is great, the VR is great, and it is relatively light. Sure, there are better lenses but not for the price and weight.
stupid question but is it compatible with the Nikon D5300?
SirWanker
Yes, it's compatible with all "modern" Nikon DSLRs.
SirWanker
Oldgrain is right. I am buying for the D5500.
Usual question for these types of drops... these are grey market, right? I picked up the 50mm lens earlier and I'm quite happy with it, but I just want to go into it knowing the full details.

I am in either way, but I would like to know as well!
I just joined on this. It will go great with my D750 to reach out a bit past the 28-120 I got with the camera.
What's different from this one on best buy 10155215? Sorry, can't seem to copy the url on my phone.

I believe the lens you are trying to describe is the 55-300 DX lens. That lens is built specifically for DX body cameras D3000 series, D5000 series, D7000 series, etc. The lens being sold here is an FX lens, but it will work on both FX and DX bodies. This lens has superior glass and build quality. All around better lens. Faster auto-focusing, this lens will not have the vignetting you may encounter with a DX lens. Especially if you are trying to use a DX lens on an FX body. Highly recommend jumping on board. I have done a ton of research on this lens and couldn't jump on this deal soon enough. Hope this explanation helps.

Excellent, appreciate your detailed reply. I would be buying this for my D3100. I barely use it though which is why it's tough to justify the extra cost. $319 from Best Buy and to be a pretty good price for what it is.
