I have this lens. For the money its a superb choice. Incredibly sharp images can be obtained with this lens with excellent technique. Its a "relatively" heavy lens. So technique is a must or you will get soft images. I have seen images which are as sharp as a $10,000 500mm f/4 lens made with this lens. But you are not going to get the hit rate or nearly as good a bokeh as you would with an f/4 or f/2.8 prime costing 8-10x as much. I've seen this lens on sale from Nikon at this price, but I think it was a refurbished version. At any rate, the price here is as low as it gets. If its Nikon authorized and you get the 5 year warranty, its worth it.

DVDMikeFYI, if this is considered Grey market, you may not be able to get it serviced by Nikon even if you pay for it. Better to get a Nikon refurbished one with a 90 warranty than getting an unserviceable lens.

Are there actual issues with "grey market" lenses? Or is it that you just don't have the peace of mind of the warranty?

TLemelinThe lenses are the same quality. Nikon just has a phenomenal warranty. Usually B&H will give a much bigger discount for Grey market nikon lenses.

I have this lens and it's pretty good. My 80-200mm 2.8 AF-S can get a bit sharper images and is faster, but you're not going to find a better super telephoto for Nikon under $4k.
As others have stated, I am not sure if this gray market lens is the one you'd want to buy given the discount, but the lens itself is great. I've taken some good photos of Eagles, fighter jets, and other interesting things that fly by my house. However, if I was going on a safari trip in Africa or something, I'd still pay to rent a more professional lens than bring this one. But it's great for what it is.
The VR on this thing is legitimately amazing, btw. It's like 4-5 stops of extra light, which makes up for the 5.6 f stop a lot.

Nikon has an instate rebate promotion for July putting the NIKKOR 200-500mm at 1246.95. eBay has a 10% off coupon for up to $100 for today, July 10th that includes Cameras & Photo. There's a couple of Authorized sellers selling this lens with a US warranty. Some of them that are bundled with accessories. I think the 128gb sandisk extreme pro from buydig is the best one. That is $1146.95 with a ~$40-60 SD card. Check out the other bundles.

grey market, and $100 off MAP pricing...bad deal. massdrop rocks for headphones, but should pretty much get out of the camera gear market.

I would get this lens if it wasn't for the gray market aspect. Hopefully they run this drop again with the US version of the lens with the great warranty.

Under the description it says "International Spec." Does this mean that the lens is not US and thus does not carry the full Nikon warranty (grey market)?

It is disappointing that this drop was cancelled. I wonder how that happens?

jgs2nSince they have sold just one lens, that likely is the reason for ending this drop early.

I asked for an updated on my purchase, rather than giving me an explanation they have canceled my order, this was a xmas gift to be used for work (a promise ) to a young photographer starting in his new career. Then they refuse to answer my calls, why would you publish a phone number only to have a message that says "if you need assistance please go to community discussions and post your question.
