That's a large camera for a small sensor

djprThe new one is about to come out that is 24 megapixel with over 100x optical zoom which is why they are trying to liquidate this model on the unsuspecting good people of massdrop. I would hate for this place to turn into a clearance sale for last year's obsolete electronics.

smallbitits also only a 1/2.3 in which makes this not that much better than most compact cameras but in a larger body.

smallbit@smallbit I hear you - but this is about half the price of the P1000 (which is the same resolution as the P900 - not 24MP). It's not like you are buying at 20% discount against the new technology. Reviews of the P900 are usually pretty strong (I researched it when the P1000 was announced) - it fits the "got to get it right now" photographer as no lens changing is required. The sensor is small compared to most DSLR options - but the camera is compact and fits a very specific super-zoom market at a price you cannot even buy a similar capability lens for a DSLR. The P1000 offers 125X zoom, so substantially more - for substantially higher cost. Plus the new one has a lower ISO limit too. Though not sure how much difference 6400 to 12800 will make at 125X. P900 is a solid camera - and a good buy at the price, if you want the longest super-zoom except it's bigger brother.

MasserdonIndeed. A year ago when I made my original comment nobody would have guessed they wouldn't upgrade the sensor. Really odd.
