I have been through 10 or 15 headlamps since I discovered them. The Nitecore HC65 is BY FAR the best headlamp I have ever owned. Various levels of light from normal to amazing. NO heat issues. Rechargeable. Durable.
Hands down the best headlamp I have ever owned.
Good brightness, good battery life, a bit heavy, but very rugged
Bright enough to cross country ski with on unlit trails. Battery lasts at least 2 hours (longest after dark ski I've taken it on) on second from highest brightness in 10-20F weather. Plenty of trail visibility.
Its a bit on the heavy side, but very well built. I've dropped it from a ladder (~6 ft) on to a concrete floor and had no issues besides some chipped paint.
Recharging via usb is awesome for travel. I charge it while hiking using a solar panel, and have had no lifespan issues while camping.
Overall, it is the best headlamp I've ever used for camping/hiking/travel, but if you are looking for something to run with, it is way too heavy (in my opinion).
Plenty bright. I never need to use the brightest setting. Usually 3 out of 5 is more than enough for me. I was after it for the long battery life, which it certainly has. There are a whole host of functions to be accessed from the double shutter style switch, most of which you will never use. I just know how to turn it on and off and adjust the brightness. Being able to see the battery charge is cool. I did it once, but can't remember the combination of half and full presses/holding the button to display it. Still, for this brightness and battery life, it's totally worth it.
Seems durable and high quality.
A bit heavier than expected (due to the battery and head strap system), but still not to heavy (~160g I reckon).
The light modes are somewhat complicated but nothing you can't figure out, might require a bit getting used to after being stored away for a while.
Not a pro, but the lighting modes are varied and even the low mode seems good enough for me. Nice to have stronger options when needed.
I'm satisfied overall.
Bought this headlamp to use with night Razor Clam Digging, but have not yet had chance to use it fully. But compared to my Duracell 550 lumen lamp, it is significantly brighter! I really hope this works.
Extremely powerful, albeit it will limit the brightness settings you can use depending on battery level. Standby is infinite, and the aluminum housing is top-notch, as are the gaskets and headband. Moderately long charging time but you won't have to deal with that often if you use all but the highest brightness settings.
Have no real complaints, it seems reliable so far and works well for camping and such. Used for 2-3 evenings in row (not on at all time & at low(er) brightness settings for majority of time that was on) and battery was still charged. It doesn't get as bright as I imagined it might, but more than bright enough for most use cases.
Just if your friend has a bright flashlight to show off, their's might likely be brighter.
For the price I had hoped I might be able to eke a little more brightness out of it or be able to use a wider variety of 18650 batteries (such as unprotected or IMR ones) as have good amount of those lying around so would be nice to be able to swap them in. But not dissatisfied either.
