SkullbunnyAw, I actually considered buying a RX480 instead of GTX 1060. Why do you regret buying it? (I have GTX 1060 atm)

MashTacoWell, lots of reasons. • AMD FreeSync is a hazard. It doesn't work and when it does - its broken AF. • The driver updates only worsen performance - I am yet to see one that's actually useful. • I have this weird thing going on - but seems like am a special snowflake as far as it goes with me - or that its just really underrated , anyways - my mouse breaks , the cursor. it turns into dots and it'll stay like that until I restart my game - it started happening ever since I upgraded to the newest series of drivers. Only older series work fine without ruining my experience (have you tried navigating through a menu without a cursor / with a big black box for a cursor?, trust me, its impossible.) • Noise , oh the noise. But I guess that's not really something you can avoid. • Iffy performance overall.
I was really anti-Nvidia as before I purchased this card. They really let me down and it reminds me of last year too. as far as I cared they were that aggressive cult of hate and everything they did was just UGH , pricing , technologies made private , marketing tactics. I didn't like it :/ But am on the verge of converting. while they don't seem to be doing too much of a good job - they seem to be doing better overall.
As for purchasing a new GPU - if you'll hold a bit there's a new 500 series hidden by AMD and the new VEGA cards by AMD , basically more technologies that'll be superior to current. You can find more about it over here - https://videocardz.com/

Aside of that , you shouldn't back down from the Nixeus monitor. AMD FreeSync is a free technology and nothing really makes it special - you're not paying more for it. this monitor is a solid purchase eitherway and it'll work just as good with either of the companies (NVIDIA / AMD) - while its lacking lots of settings and is awfully simple. I think you'll be happy with it.
If you have any questions in specific lemme know.

SkullbunnyDamn, thanks for such a detailed insight about the Gpu and the monitor! I really wanted to buy this monitor for a long time, and because of your review about the monitor, I will definitely buy this monitor! Thank you for all the kind replies.

MashTacoaye! Its a fancy piece of tech too. Its simple and not tacky :D. The matte screen along with matte black all around is so pretty. I gave it horns;

^ old pics from when I bought it :P P.S. , invest in the 'premium stand' - its worth it. Not only it makes it look nicer - its also somewhat useful , I guess. kinda. TBH I had some troubles with it at first but after contacting Nixeus some of the problems were solved but yeah its all fine now.

SkullbunnyI don't mean to belittle your experience with your card, but I've never seen anyone complain about Freesync not working - in fact I've only heard people rave about how amazing of an upgrade it is.
You said you have the XFX RX 480 8GB - do you have the RS version of the card (there are 3+ non-reference XFX RX 480s)? That card is notorious for poor thermal paste application between the GPU and heatsink, which led to a lot of people having heat issues, the fan running full-throttle, and just generally being crap until they pulled cards, pulled the HS, cleaned the thermal paste off, then applied their own.
There are a bunch of examples in the Newegg comments and over at /r/AMD of the heat/noise/performance trouble with an unmodded XFX RX 480 RS. That may account for your issues.

AshconsThe card performs fine O.o noise is just a thing due to fan design - its not LOUD noise its just background noise that I cannot stand. its a mixture of it and my system fans.
When I said that FreeSync didn't work - I think its more a personal thing here. My screen would flicker and would drive me nuts. Its either the Monitor or the GPU - but I still give AMD the credit on the issue.
Overall the GPU was just a poor experience :/ as I said , its fine and it does deliver for the buck - but AMD will not be my GO-TO GPU manufacturer on my next card - Unless they can really pull through :|
EDIT; tho I just read it might be a thing for 144hz , I'll try to set my monitor to 120 and have FreeSync on. hopefully it won't happen!
Goodluck me.

SkullbunnyAMD's been underwhelming for a lot of consumers with the past 4 generations of video cards giving small performance tweaks rather than generational jumps.
They're still my go-to card since I fall squarely in mid-range performance builds and the 470/480 cards are in a sweet spot for me - I mean you can find 4GB 480s for $150 as a bargain hunter! I ended up buying an MSI 470 4GB card that'll end up at $130 if/when the rebate comes through.
Hope your setting change fixes your issue with the flickering. I still think your fan noise sounds like a heat problem rather than a design problem. My 470 has a dual fan design and is quiet enough that I only ever hear it when the fans ramp up near full-speed, which has only happened once.

AshconsAight so , as for the flickering - none. Tho I can't say I feel a massive improvement over the usual VSYNC i had on...so...ugh? , lol.
My fans never go full speed - only when I start up my computer and it does for 3 secs. So yeah am talking about white noise that's in the background that I really can't stand - I already know what it sounds like when its full power blown out. unpleasant. its unpleasant , that's what its like.

Skullbunnyahhh good to see that AMD (and ATI before them) are still writing trash drivers. My entire reason for being an Nvidia Fanboi (admittedly). I've never owned anything but.. well I did own one Radeon pile of complete POO. oh and my work laptop has a AMD card in it that not a single game will even detect. Do not see the point in putting them in with discreet video. Never had that problem with Nvidia. But there is the Nvidia tax, much like the Apple tax. Better will cost ya.

SkullbunnyIf you have problem with XFX card contact the company. They have an amazing return policy set up for users. And I KNOW it should stop be under their warranty. I use an XFX 480 8 gig card and had some problems at one point till I deleted the drivers then installed the latest one they had a couple months ago

Skullbunnywhy is AMD trash? all AMD cards are always cheaper and stronger than Nvidia's rival cards and Freesync is the exact same thing as G-Sync but cheaper by 150$ And also used by 10 times more monitors..

nadavs2310Dont quote me on this, but i read an article about AMD and NVIDIA, and basically what it came down to is that NVIDIA holds their software and architecture of the GPU's very close, so other people dont have access to it (like AMD), where AMD is open source. When it comes to games, if a game has things like NVIDIA hair works or other software like that, AMD can't compete because ofcourse NVIDIA cards are optimized for it. Also, NVIDIA cards can cope with tessellation a lot better then AMD cards can, so all of NVIDIA software, like hair works, use a lot of tessellation. Its kind of a low blow from NVIDIA, but business is business. AMD does not have access to this and cant optimize their cards for it, so NVIDIA gets the upper hand. Because AMD is open source, NVIDIA has access to this kind of stuff from AMD, so they can make sure their cards will work well with any AMD software. I don't know if it is still like that, but that is what i herd and thought it may help answer your question. Other then that, personally i dont think AMD is trash at all.
