I own regular non "premium" version of this pocket saw. I assume the only difference is that premium one has leather handles and leather case that doubles the cost. I believe for its size and weight, it's good as a backup or emergency tool for occasional use. I always have one with me in my backpacking/bikepacking gear. It doesn't meant to be a serious replacement for ordinary saws and, obviously, this one can't compete with folding saws or extractable saws like Fiskars Xtract, which is both light and ridiculously efficient. The main benefit for Nordic Pocket Saw it's ultra-compact size and light weight. It still capable to cut some thick branches you can't/won't brake with bare hands. You can even cut logs though this takes a lot of effort and endurance. Also chain can easily stuck/be jammed by the wood.

I have a number of lightweight, collapsible saws for camping, backpacking, etc., including the well-known Sven folding bow-saw, which, at half this price, is twice the weight and 21 inches long, so not really ultralight. However, I also have a "pocket chainsaw" made by Green Mountain, the Chainmate CM-24SSP, which, at the same 24 inches as this Nordic saw, is one ounce more at a retail of $25, and currently sells on a well-known commerce site named after a long South American river for $5. So, while shaving an extra ounce and some leather seems like it would likely cost a bit more, I'm still struggling to understand how this is supposed to be a good deal at anywhere between 3x and 15x the price, depending on how you reckon it. "It's Swedish!" doesn't really seem like a sufficient explanation.

jmk451I won't argue about price (I bought original version of Nordic Pocket Saw for $32 here) but Chainmate CM-24SSP isn't really the same. It has teeth on every third link - Nordic pocket chainsaw has teeth on every link with particular shape and pattern and they say it increases efficiency (can't confirm, never used Chainmate pocket saw). Also, these chainsaws can be made from different steel (Chainmate description doesn't specify this).

Since 1990 I have owned and used these types of pocket chain saws in wilderness situations, summer and winter. I a still have the USA made one from 1990 and it still cuts perfectly. I would not trust anything else to do what this does for the size and weight. Just think about the advantage of an upright posture while cutting a branch or small log while it is on the ground. These things are super fast, require less arm strength, and don't require any special setup to cut (grounded logs or branches high on the tree). Unless you've tried a quality pocket chain saw you've not experienced the best.

Hmm..$80.00 for something competing with a $20.00 folding saw.??

Looks to me like dismantled chainsaw's chain with leather handles. Seems not very practical - you don't need chainsaw's chain ability to hook better for this type of work.

OneLoveIf a tree falls in the woods and you're one who did it, does it make a sound? No. because you're a ninja tree assassin.
