What would be a good portable Dac/Amp to use with my HD6xx and Sony Xperia 1 V cell phone?
I am new to this hobby. I purchased a HD6XX and plan to use it with my Sony Xperia 1 V cell phone, that has a 3.5mm jack. I was wondering if I needed a portable dac/amp or just a portable amp and if so what would one recommend? Any assistance one could provide, would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Haz

Those days are long gone and it's largely due to drops like this. I won't even mention Massdrop to newcomers because I don't want people think I'm an idiot who supports buying $300 cables for $200 headphones.
Drops like this are going to destroy your reputation in the long term.
May you tell me where I can buy HD 800 or Audeze EL-8 or AKG K812 for $ 200? You'd surely make my day if you do so! 8;-)
"Drops like this are going to destroy your reputation in the long term." Drops like this attract people who want to pay less for pricy cables. PERIOD.
Is there any discussion more entertaining than headphones' or headphone gear's ones?
Like I said, I'd be happy to make your day and sell you the K81 for $200.
Have you not been resorting to that logical fallacy I might have agreed with you. Though I must add that I'm also agreeing with Audible regarding attraction property of this discussion.
By the way, if you're so dense about Massdrop putting the wrong picture in Description you might think of quiting buying on Massdrop.
As for the people who know what they're talking about, it's their money to spend and I couldn't care less what they do with it. If you want to drop $270 because the cable is blue then by all means go for it.
This is still going to hurt Massdrop's reputation in the long run. They could have listed this as an expensive cable that looks nice and been honest. Instead they write that it will "eliminate triboelectric noise within the cable" and other such nonsense. It tells me that they have no problem lying to the community and makes me much more skeptical when buying a newly launched product because I can't trust the description.
"Those days are long gone and it's largely due to drops like this. " I said that in the context of recommending this site to friends and people new to the community, basically people who don't know much about the hobby. I was previously able to recommend it because the vast majority of the drops here were great. Drops like this, which offer essentially zero benefits in terms of sound for a very high cost, are why I can't recommend this site any more, although there are a lot of questionable products on here these days.
" Drops like this attract people who want to pay less for pricy cables. PERIOD." I couldn't care less what you spend your money on and if you feel these are worth the price then go for it. What's going to hurt their reputation is not selling expensive cables but saying crap like " eliminate triboelectric noise within the cable" that will screw them over in the long run. Just come out and say that these are pretty cables that cost a lot. When they start throwing in the snake oil, it's telling me that I can't trust their description, a real problem since they're starting to sell products that can't be bought elsewhere.
Well they chose to sell Nordost cables. Nordost is selling those with this description:
« BLUE HEAVEN HEADPHONE CABLE The Blue Heaven Headphone Cable offers a unique combination of technological innovation, pliability and strength to make the best interface for mid to high level headphones. Nordost uses 34 AWG 7/42 conductors, which are twisted into a Litz construction, increasing flexibility, eliminating triboelectric noise within the cable and improving upon its mechanical damping. Our proprietary Micro Mono-Filament technology is then applied, which involves individually wrapping each conductor with a strand of FEP before being encased in extruded FEP insulation, drastically improving the cable’s dielectric. In order to accommodate the added demands on our headphone cables, Nordost has included an Aramid fiber strength member to the construction of this cable. Aramid fibers serve a dual purpose. Not only do they ensure the mechanical integrity of the cable, transferring the strain away from the conductors, but the resonating properties of Aramid fibers also enhance sound quality. The Blue Heaven Headphone Cable is terminated with a 3.5mm stereo mini plug and is provided with a threaded 3.5mm to 6.3mm(1/4in) stereo phono adapter that easily and securely screws onto the original termination. The Blue Heaven Headphone Cable is compatible with many popular headphones on the market, and is available in 1.25m and 2m lengths. »
« High-End Headphone Cables For your high-end headphones, you’ll want cables of the highest caliber—and that’s exactly what Nordost strives to provide. »
Today, a coworker who knows nothing about High End Audio told me he bought a Sonos PLAY:3. When I asked him how he made his choice, and where he bought it, he told me he first made searches on the internet. After reading enough information, looking for alternatives products. he made his decision. Then he went to a local store selling high end audio. Asked for more advice, and chose to buy it at that store for the good quality of customer service. My coworker is a newbie in the audio field. In 2018 this is how a newbie is making his homework before buying.
Firstly, you now know why I asked my coworker how he made his choice.
Secondly, you now know if I think my coworker was not helpless! 8;-)
Are you sharing on this subject in a blog or a forum thread?
Yeah, it's called confirmation bias.
