Least favorite MiTo drop... I understand it's supposed to be funny, but it doesn't seem to lend well to the established MiTo aesthetic.

boolean-julienOh man, thanks for checking it out! It is supposed to be trollish as you can probably tell, but if you don't mind expanding a little - how do you personally perceive the established aesthetic you mentioned?

MiToHmm, how to put this...
MiTo keysets are done with high quality plastics, excellent colors, precise legends, great thickness on any profiles.

boolean-julienI see, so you mean a serious design for the mat? For example a thematic one such as Godspeed with the Milky Way novelties or maybe a Laser one?

MiToSeriously though, there's irony on this mat. You've set high expectations of quality for your brand, so even if this is supposed to be a joke, it just comes off as tasteless, uncalculated, out-of-character. If this was a bonus item I think it would work better, but not as something to deliberately spend money on.
Just my opinion, I love and appreciate all your work! I hate that the first time I'm interacting with you, it's to shit on something you made, lol.

boolean-julienI appreciate all sorts of criticism and I like to understand how people perceive things, so don't worry, even if it's the first interaction I think it's being a positive one! Right, so regarding the irony I believe perhaps it may have come off as tasteless. Maybe because for me (a non-native speaker) the deskmat reads as a bit of a hilarious ad, but for the American customers it doesn't. Since I focus on making the best possible keycaps every time, I thought it would be fun to trollishly highlight my commitment. I don't think it's a product for everyone, just a "novelty" item for decoration you know? I have more serious and coherent ideas that we are working on for the established brand keysets' mats, so of course, thanks a lot for checking this out anyway!

MiToI think if it came across more like a replicated ad it would seem more authentic, and the gag would be better. I think the product is trying to be both, should be a pseudo-ad or a mito branded theme, but not both?

GSimonI see, you used the right words - it was supposed to be a pseudo-ad! Pseudo in the sense of a low-quality ad, not in the sense that it represents a "brand" somewhat intentionally?

MiToTo be clear, when I said "there's irony on this mat", I wasn't talking about the intended irony, but the meta-irony: it is ironic that, through your use of irony, you talked about the quality of your products, and this product is lacking in that same quality.
Being a non-native English speaker attempting to deliberately make non-native broken English is an interesting point. Maybe to truly make funny, intentionally bad English, you have to be, ironically, native.

This is exactly what your post made me think. For example, what do you think would be an intentionally troll/lame ad written intentionally bad by a native speaker?

MiToIMO, it just looks like a rushed design in MSPaint. For "profiles ." there is a space between the word and period, the text is just very busy. I get you tried for an "engrish" type text, but it doesn't even make sense on that level.
I guess you went with Novelkeys on the design, but if I see "hilarious ad" aimed at American customers, look for the "as seen on TV" type ads... But wait, there's more, buy now and get a second one free at no additional cost, some rediculous claim like sawing boats in half but how the weight of your keyboard can hold your tent down in a hurricane, 59.97 or 3 easy payments of 19.99 + processing and handling, bad quotes from people on the street who love the product, call now in the next 15 minutes and...
The placement of the X) end up being in the one spot where the keyboard covers them up. So all you're greeted with is a bunch of text. Did a quick translate of the Japanese text and I get Mechanical Keyboard on the left, but couldn't image grab the right because it was picking up the background colors as Japanese text. Could have put in a good troll by having it say something mocking in Japanese that says "I love rubber dome switches".
IMO, do a mat of just the X), it's actually not that bad of a design. This current mat just doesn't do it for me. I'm sure there are a few people that get the humor.

HerpDerpenbergThank you very much for the thoughtful reply, it was an awesome read! I thought about making ridiculous claims regarding payment options or something like that, but I wasn't quite sure it would be "legal/acceptable" since the product is actually going for sale (a bit of a paradox if you know what I mean). Holding down a tent in the middle of a hurricane type of "catch phrase" is something I unfortunately didn't think about, it's a nice idea, probably funnier for you guys than what I came up with. Like I said thanks a lot for the feedback, I appreciate the attention and hope you'll be more excited for the upcoming ones!
