CalaverasgrandeWrist wrests are intended for just that, resting your wrists. The general complaint is that you shouldn't have your wrists on the wrist rest while typing. Your hands should be hovering slightly above boards so that they are parallel to the desk, rather than at an angle. But it should be fine to let your wrists down on the wrist rest when you are not actively typing.
PirateIcelol thats good to know. I was hoping someone could point me to some articles that claim to be definitive and have some credibility to them.
My takeaway was that resting your actual wrist on a wrist-rest is bad because it compresses your wrist, and that you should be resting your palms instead. If your wrists already float naturally then a wrist rest would make things worse.
But all of the sources I found seemed to be part of the "idiot-internet" when you're searching for information in a domain you don't know, using the laymens terminology. All i could find were a bunch of blog-style articles that dont make any claims at all but instead regurgitate the question over 3 pages.
River117the main thing I realized is that I definitely dont hover when gaming typically, at least games with heavy WASD usage like fps, I literally get marks on my arm so it would seem pretty conclusive a cushy wrist wrest is pushing my hand closer to proper posture by both making it easier to rest on my palms and making my hands more horizontal..
PirateIceThat makes sense, but where are the marks on your arm?
I found that I rest my forearm (close to the elbow) at the edge of a desk, and make a very shallow (almost parallel) angle so that my wrist and fingers are floating above the keyboard.
If the marks on your arm are pretty close to the elbow, i think you're good.
River117so you have your keyboard at least a foot or more from the edge right?
mine is pretty close so I meant more like marks on my wrists almost, now with a "wrist rest" right under my keyboard I can at least use my palms for a close to horizontal position when gaming, with my keyboard only a couple inches from the edge of the table.
CalaverasgrandeIf you use it as palm rest not a wrist rest, it does actually help your typing form. Maybe one day they will name these accessories properly. Rest your palms not your wrists
