I'm new to the world of headphones. I'm getting a Primo8. I'd like to use them with my IPad. Do I need one of these amp/dacs to put between the Primos and the IPad? If so can you recommend. Sorry for being dumb, and thanks in advance for your help.

BukLivesDon't worry, it's not a dumb question. No, you don't need a separate DAC/amp to use these IEMs, you can just plug them straight into your iPad and they will work fine. That said, being multi-BA IEMs they are quite source sensitive, so many (myself included) find that they sound better through a better quality source. You might not find it worth the extra cost and hassle to buy one though, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, at least to start with. You could certainly consider something like a Dragonfly black (which I use) as a possible upgrade in future though. It's an DAC/amp the size and shape of a flash drive that sounds great and can be used with practically any device from an iPad to a desktop computer, plus it's quite cheap compared to some options.
I've had my Primo 8s for a bit over a year now, so if you have any other questions about these I'm happy to answer.

MetaMorphThanks so much Meta! I'll be on that Dragonfly. I've read many fine reviews of it.

MetaMorphSo, how do you like them MetaMorph? What other IEM's do you currently own, or have you owned that you can comapre to the Primo's? I would plan to use these straight from my iPod Classic. I currently own Shure SE215. I am presuming that the Promo's would be an upgrade, with a significantly different signature. My full size headphones are Grado GH1 and RS2e. Any comments you can offer would be appreciated.

Thanks for the prompt and detailed reply, MetaMorph. I listen to a lot of small group jazz, and find that this is where the Grados excel. Based on your comments, I believe that the signature of the Primos will suit me. I am not too concerned about the fit as I found that I had to experiment with tips on the SE215, as well, to get the sound to my liking. I tend to think that this is true for all IEM's.
