Received my Priomo8's from the June drop this past Tuesday, so I have had a few days; probably 12+ hours of listening time with them. I am coming from Shure SE215 as my primary IEM's. First of all I would say that these are a definite upgrade to the SE215 with respect to clarity, instrument placement, and the width of the sound stage. I found the bass, mids, and treble to be distinct, and clear. Listening to a Dead &Co. webcast on Wednesday night; Mayer's and Weir's guitars were clearly separate, and distinguishable in the mix. The bass on the Primo8's is not exaggerated. I found it to be more than adequate, and present when called for...definitely to my liking. Going back to the SE215 for a brief listen left me feeling that they were muddy, congested, overly bassy, and lacking in treble. As with any other IEM, tip selection and fit are critical to getting the best possible sound . I preferred the Westone Star tips ( 12 mm OD x 14 mm long, red) with the SE215, and found this to be true for the Primo8's, as well. The Comply tips are also acceptable, and provide better isolation than the Westone tips, with a bit stronger bass (probably due to better seal), but I find them somewhat fatiguing. I tend to only use the Comply tips for air travel. It is good to have choices. While price is not the only consideration, for me, it has an influence on my buying decisions. I have never heard, and may never hear, a $500 IEM, so I would not venture a guess as to the Primo8's price/performance at the MSRP. I would, however, give it high marks at the drop price.

zombywoofI also have se215s and these primo 8s. (and hifiman re400s, sony xba-h1) In regards to the se215, as soon as I got them last year I found them unlistenable. However, with Viper4Android audio mods, I was able to make them sound really really good in terms of balance. removed the muffled sound on the mids, removed the mid bass bump and extended the low bass. I use this as my gym set up through a westone BT mmcx cable. and I use spinfit ear tips.
In regards to the primo 8s, i actually like the Shure silicone tips that came with the se215 the best! This was after trying Stock, Westone foam, Westone silicone, Shure foam, Shure silcone, Comply foam, Spinfit and Spiral Dot modded to fit. I did get a good seal from many, the comply sounded great too. However, the shure sounded just as good as teh comply and are much easier to take in and out.
And for good measure, the re400s are best to me with spinfits and the h1s sounded best with a pair of tips that came with the re400s. for these two IEMs it truly cam down to the best sealing tips.

sirkuttinI think I have tried all the tips that you mentioned at one time or another with the IEM's I have owned, in addition to some generic tips of unknown origin confiscated from other family members. Still enjoying the Primo8's. The choice of the appropriate tip for any IEM seems to be even more "personal preference" than the sound signature. Since the quality of the fit is so important to the overall sound signature one is able to achieve, I have concluded that five people with the same IEM can easily prefer five different tips; meanwhile, all agreeing that the IEM is excellent. For this reason, I find it much harder to put stock in overly detailed reviews of IEM's. Cheers.
